What did you do in the garden today?

Well, I did a little more gardening today. I finally planted garlic. Starting it indoors. Not sure if it's going to sprout. I'm using store bought hardneck garlic. I put the cloves in the fridge for the last 2 or 3 weeks. Now I planted them in 4" grow out pots. I placed 3 cloves in each pot. If the sprout I'll transplant them into their own pots to grow until we are frost free, and then I'll transplant them into the garden to grow through the season to produce bulbs. If this works, I could end up with up to 6 dozen bulbs if garlic.
I also planted 10 starter cells with celery seeds. Apparently celery can take 3 weeks to germinate.

I'm realizing I am going to need to set up a larger seed starting area...

Broke down and bought another container of 'bear grease', as DH refers to it, for my nose and lips. I finally ran out. I think my last container lasted me 10 years. It's water soluble gloop that keeps my cheeks, nose, and lips from cracking and bleeding. I used it when I worked outside in NorthDakota. My last container was 10 years old when I finally ran out. LOL.

Am such a pinch penny. 4 inches more snow yesterday, 3 more tonight.
Windchills for the next two days -40F/C
Regular temps not much better, -18F, Honestly though, it doesn't FEEL that horrible out. It's not damp, and the winds aren't howling. And it's mid February so the sun angle helps. It's getting old though.

Decided to plant some leeks, so I'll pick up seeds when I go into town today.

Once upon a time in Fargo, I went out in a t-shirt and jeans to walk the dogs. They were running through the field as happy as can be, and we even played fetch. After about half an hour, I went inside. I got yelled at proper for being out in ... I think it was forty below without bundling up.

45F here and lots of rain forecasted
but it was 72F the other day

I was worried about letting the chickens out cause they were going near the garden, but grabbing individual sprouts when there are thousands of weeds elsewhere is probably not going to happen... but we had a hawk attack yesterday so no ones getting let out now

Took my seed collection out of the deep freeze today, letting them thaw out nice and easy so I can get some started for my new DIY aeroponic rig. Weather here is too... uh, finicky to plant outside until late May and then hail every time you turn around. But I want salad sooner than that! Also going to reorganize my seed collection while it's out. Tired of the seeds trying to fall out of the paper pouches, tape or no tape. Then slicing the tape open and needing to re-tape. Such a mess. Got tiny resealable bags to put the seeds in, then I can just stick those in the paper pouches, and put the lot of them in a photo organizer I grabbed on clearance. Much better.

ICE and SNOW here today so I guess I will not use this old plow resting in the landscape - most likely it has not been used for more than a century so why start now? Found this and many other old implements on the property when it was purchased. Also some decent germination on the Shishito pepper seeds that I planted - I still have hope that the one vacant cell might still have a seedling appear in it.
