What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon gardeners. It took me pretty much all day but I got the shed cleaned out and organized Tossed all the tomato cages into an empty space in the garden for now, a few have wire attached and others have shade cloth so they need work before I use them. I noticed a lot of rat droppings in the shed but the culprit was dead in a corner. I think I’m going to have hubs cut the lattice so it’s smaller and covers the door completely and then cover it with scraps of HWC to help deter the darn things. I’ve already started a pile for the next bulk trash pickup but most of the stuff can slowly go out in the trash as it’s not large. Went to Lowe’s this morning and picked up three kiddie pools for the ducks. These aren’t really deep enough for the ducks to swim in like the pond liner, but they were in the one I set out as soon as it was full having a great time anyway. The ducklings also got a little pool in their enclosure today and it wasn’t long before they were in it either. I’m waiting for hubs to get home from work so he can help me move his engine hoist somewhere out of the weather and I can hear the wind chimes in the breeze. It was calm this morning but it’s supposed to blow pretty good and maybe we’ll get rain tonight.
Here are some pics of the shed. I even got the wheelbarrow inside and there’s still room to get in there and get the things I use frequently. I stacked all the plastic pots I’ve been saving in the rabbit hutch. Oh and the ducks of course.

Well, despite the two-year-old "helping" I managed to get all my seeds organized. Still have room for a lot more, too, which is good. I guess this is the point in winter at which we start getting a little stir crazy and miss all the good green things.

I won’t either! I don’t have a shed, I have a greenhouse that functions like a shed, but grows weeds!

My coop used to be where onions and garlic were dried. I even have a root cellar! What I don’t have is a clue how to see a worm or slug and not vomit, scream, and refuse to plant anything in the garden that doesn’t grow several feet high.

If I find so much as a single slug on a strawberry I chuck it, that's for certain! That's also part of my interest in indoor growing. No pests.

Well, I did a little more gardening today. I finally planted garlic. Starting it indoors. Not sure if it's going to sprout. I'm using store bought hardneck garlic. I put the cloves in the fridge for the last 2 or 3 weeks. Now I planted them in 4" grow out pots. I placed 3 cloves in each pot. If the sprout I'll transplant them into their own pots to grow until we are frost free, and then I'll transplant them into the garden to grow through the season to produce bulbs. If this works, I could end up with up to 6 dozen bulbs if garlic.
I also planted 10 starter cells with celery seeds. Apparently celery can take 3 weeks to germinate.

I'm realizing I am going to need to set up a larger seed starting area...

I tried garlic last year. Started out WONDERFULLY I was so proud, then the week and a half of straight ass rain started. That's when I learned that garlic is not really a surface bulb and likes to dig deep ... in my pots, deep enough to pretty much kill off my entire crop due to over moist and neck rot. I got busy and missed this years planting season really but will be ready this september for a huge load. I learned and have it all planned out now.

Here's a news flash, those bugs, even find a way to get INDOORS TOO. The little gnats can get really annoying but they make grow lights that have a bug lamp built into the base. or just get a regular bulb that is like that, it can keep the dirt gnats down on indoor plants w/o the chemicals. A venus fly trap works ok too

I did get those blasted fungus gnats once in potted plants, but I'm moving away from dirt indoors for now. Aeroponic growing, but I'll probably run a bug zapper just as an insurance policy.

If you can handle it, letting a few of those house gecko's run loose works well on bugs too but not too sure on ones that small. I used to have an 8 Lb Iguana (Yes Iggy was HUGE) not fat but just BIG who ran free so a litle lizzy did not phase me one bit. He was every bit of 6 foot long tail and all. VERY protective of me, once one of my friends was goofing around and punched me, that iguana attacked him like you would never believe, scared the crap out of BOTH of us. Me trying to get Rick out the back door and not get belted with that tail myself or bit. We knew iggums were fast too but that day, learned just HOW fast.

Haha! I got a good laugh out of the mental image there. I don't mind lizards or iguanas, or most reptiles minus snakes, but I do have a small child and cats and that would probably be a bad combo.
