What did you do in the garden today?

We have had rain 4 out of the last 8 days, from .3 inch to 2.7 inches, each rain event. Then the sun comes out and makes you want to work, but the mud hampers much of the work. But it is springtime and beautiful. Temps are warm and mild for the date. Finished off my over wintered carrots this past week and they were still crisp and sweet! We had temps below freezing 24 hours/7 days for longer than usual and the low was down to 2 degrees. That only happens here every couple of decades or so. Still had great success under row covers with most crops overwintering this past winter! I have harvested lettuce every month of the year, except August/September when it has bolted, the last several years in my raised beds. Spinach, kale, lettuces, turnips, carrots, rutabaga, collards, garlic, mustards, cilantro, parsley and onions have all done well surviving the freeze and producing all winter! The onions and garlic got the tips burned a bit touching the row cover when there was 10 inches of snow on it. It is looking Ok now and is going to crop well this early summer, I think. I allow some crops to seed for collection, and the Alabama Blue Heirloom Collards are Beautiful plants! Happy gardens to all today!

We survived the storms with no damage to our property aside from lightning probably taking out some trees on the backside. One of my plans is to get a well dug one day. There are several old wells on the property but I doubt they are safe drinking water.

That's where it's different.
We are still under water restrictions, in the sense that there can be no more places built up here.
Guy bought 80 acres with intention of breaking it up into 20 acre parcels and selling 3 of them and building his place on the 4th.
He never checked if he could drop a well. 6 years later and he still hasn't been able to build on it because he can't drop a well. He can't even split the property to sell it, and no one wants to buy the full 80 as you can't do a well.
SO he's been paying on a HUGE mortgage and can't use the land for anything other than hunting.

I would feel sorry for him... but I don't.

@Sally PB Hash browns for breakfast, potato salad for lunch, and potatoes au gratin for dinner? Oh, and chips for the snack!

Hey you never know with those old wells, sometimes they just need a little remediation and they can be capped and pumped. I'd get them tested, might save you a chunk of change.

I will but these are old hand dug wells so I’m not holding out much hope.
