What did you do in the garden today?

I finally got the eggs set. I ended up getting up every 30min to an hour to check the temp on the incubator. I finally got it stabilized at about 7. It’s raining heavily today and the rest of the family just got back from out of town. Im giving myself a break. I might do some laundry and baking and maybe if I feel like I might rake a load of pine straw to put on the bed near the carport. I do not trust myself to do anything important with the lack of sleep.

I just gotta say - not all Rhodesian Ridgebacks are mean. Wrong dog for the wrong person most likely.

A friend of mine loved Rhodesians, the only dog he would own. He drove 8 hours round trip to look at puppies, then 6 weeks later drove back to pick up his new pup.
His were the biggest couch potatoes you ever met. They only barked once when the doorbell went off, and a lot of times wouldn't even get off the couch to say hello. The neighbor kids would climb over the fence to play fetch with them and the 84 year old lady next door would open the gate and go in to give them treats. Only once did they follow her back into her yard and not go home when she told them to.

Our next door neighbor breeds and sells Rhodesian Ridgebacks. For people who don't know that breed, it is very aggressive and used to hunt lions. The neighbors use a wireless fence AND a wired fence to keep the dogs on their property. A couple of years ago (before I lived next door), the dogs attacked and nearly killed a Terminex guy who was treating the property. The neighbors justified the attack by saying that the guy crossed the boundary into an area where he shouldn't have gone. That's probably a grey area that could be argued from both sides. However, just a few months ago, our OTHER neighbor who is 93 yrs old and severely handicapped was driving his golf cart (as he does nearly every day) down the street and the dogs came after him in the street. I guess the batteries were dead on their collars for the wireless fence, not sure.... But they bit the old man on his golf cart. Normally he has his small lab mix with him. If she had been with him that day, I'm certain the dogs would have killed her. I don't believe the old man ever reported the attack. Personally, I would have reported it. My husband works for the Health Dept and is responsible for handling dog bite cases in a different county. If ANY dog is a threat to the surrounding community, it should be contained like a dangerous animal such as a big cat, bull, or other similar animal. If those dogs ever jump the WIRED fence between our properties, they will be dead dogs.
My sister had a Rhodesian. Had it from a puppy, it was nice and trained and everything. Then at five years old it snapped, it chased her around the house and trapped her behind a bedroom door for 5 hours until her husband came home from work. They had it put down. NO idea why it went.

Whaaat??!! Trying to justify near killing of a company employee that they hired to do service for them?? Uh...common sense says keep the vicious dogs away/penned up while person is on property per your instructions! Wonder what the outcome was-assume insurance/lawyers were somehow involved.

My motto is if it has teeth it will bite, if it has claws it will scratch, etc. Never forget that it is an animal and they cant talk. They cant tell you they're scared or to get off their property, etc. I love all animals, but never trust them fully, ever. Even my own super sweet tom cat. Sorry George! 🤣🤣

Yes, I feel the same way. Especially if there is not a marked boundary and highly visible signage warning people not to go in that area. Or have someone HOME to keep the animals in check when you are expecting strangers on your property....

I do believe the gentlemen sued and got a settlement. I have no idea what it was.

However, some people may say that the dogs were protecting their home turf from a stranger who (from the dogs' view) was trespassing. Can't blame the dogs for doing what many dogs would do.

I am still afraid of my beagle biting me when I clip his nails.
