What did you do in the garden today?

So you made me curious...Of the three Big box stores in the area, here are the prices for a Cedar 4x4x8 post.

$35....$14 ....or $88 (for a 2-pack, no price listed for a single). So, $14 doesn't seem too bad, although surely higher than in early 2020. Maybe its an error, but that is one error I'd argue for bc stores usually honor their web pricing if you are in store shopping.

I just checked Lowes and ours says a 4x4x8 cedar post is $14 as well. However, that doesn't mean it is a GOOD piece of lumber. Every time I've gone to Lowes in the past 6 months to get lumber, it could barely pass for anything USABLE and that's after spending 15 minutes digging through a pile of firewood to find it the best pieces.

Let me add that we just built a new coop for our Silkies. It is the 3rd coop I've built in the past 3 years. Due to the cost of a single 2x4 ($9!), we opted to build the coop using 2x2s because they were only $3/each. Luckily, the coop is small and I could get away with using 2x2s instead of 2x4s.

I haven't done much in the garden in the past few days. I planted 2 more blueberry plants (Titan Rabbiteye & another Pink Lemonade). With 7 blueberry bushes now, I'm going to have blueberries coming out of my ears soon.... I need to go pick up more Anaheim peppers, crookneck squash, & Dill since mine were killed by the frost. I also need some marigolds... And I have a bunch of seedlings that are ready to be planted outdoors very soon. I need to get cracking on filling more tires.... I'm so sick of shoveling dirt! :hmm:lol:

Real estate is insane! That's why I sold my rental house, no way I could pass up what people were willing to pay for it. I had planned on keeping it for income during retirement but the sale price changed my mind quick, lol.

My neighbor gave me 3 4x4 plexiglass sheets to put over my raised beds so I can start some plants early. I wasn't prepared for that, & for my new beds, so I'm all confused on what to do & where so I'm doing nothing. :gig I wanted the new beds for strawberries but with the plexiglass I think I could put the peppers out there now. Ugh, I don't know, it throws off my whole garden plan, lol.

Not much else going on here, I'm thinking we may have seen our last good frost for the year. Hopefully.

Oh, question - the bush beans I stared, I think they're actually pole beans. Bush beans don't put out vines like pole beans, do they? I've never done bush before, but these sure do look like poles!

I was going to plant them in big pots & keep them inside for a while & get some beans early, can't do that with pole beans!

Definitely poles

I got a big stash of FREE 10 gallon and 15 gallon Barrels complete with pour valves on them and everything, they are plastic This will be perfect for keeping my compost teas etc in. Id rather keep that stuff bottled up, because it helps keep the bugs out, keeps the skeeters from turning it into a breeding ground, and potential odors to a minimum. Plus all I need to do when I need some is turn the valve, gurgle out a gallon and throw it into the irrigation barrel and good to go!
