What did you do in the garden today?

I got my eggplants started. Now I wait. :pop

Got a load of topsoil today :celebrate:bun I have high hopes it will help my garden. I filled my two barrels so far, waiting on my pallets so i can build the beds and get those filled too:jumpy
How many potatoes could i plant in each barrel?
If it's just topsoil, mix in a good amount of compost, peat moss, and even sand to keep the soil loose. Otherwise you may find after it gets wet and then dries it will get dense and hard, which isn't ideal for most things to grow. Just my $.02.

I got out in the garden after work and got some tilling. The tiller is still acting up though. I might take it into a small engine shop this weekend. I managed to till what I needed for now though. I was pleasantly surprisedv with the structure of the top layer of soil. I put a out of leaves, compost and poultry manure down in the Fall. It seems to have paid off.

Then I raked and shoveled soil into three raised rows for planting potatoes. Each raised row is 3ft wide and 10ft long with 2ft spacing between them. Thin raised beds without anything around them. I'll be planting two rows of potatoes in each raised row. I mulched between the raised rows with straw. I'm hoping that the straw and the dense foliage of the potato plants will prevent weeds.

This pic is dark since the sun was down by the time I finished, but it shows the raised rows.

The past year or so (maybe a few years) has been a great time to buy in poplar bluff. Cheap. I debated a few times buying a cheap house to rent it out but i dont want to deal with the headache of crappy tenants. I could never live in poplar bluff myself. Especially raise my kids there. The crime and drugs is out of control. My nephew is a butler county deputy and they deal with murders and robberies daily.
Yeah, that is what my son decided too. He said the drugs are out of control in Poplar Bluff. So now he isn’t moving here with his family. So we are going to list the house back on the market after we finish fixing it up. This house is the closest house to the police station and it still isn’t safe enough from the drugs and crime. 😞

I get nervous about lids made in China so I won't buy them unless I know who made them. Some of them get awful reviews too on Amazon.
It appears that we foiled the hunger strike/death wish of the turkey poult. All look energetic ...so hoping their last move to the larger outdoor pen (in May) doesn’t make another try to die.

beautiful and warm today!!
Yay!
So we bought/planted 3 blueberry bushes today. Two in 3 gallon pots, one just a 1 gallon. Should I pinch off the flowers on all of them? Or does that just apply to the smaller/younger one?
I did not pull the flowers off of mine last year & it produced quite a few berries that I totally enjoyed. LOL. Someone else probably knows much better than me though, it was my first blueberry bush.

Got tons done yesterday - got the mulch pulled back & fertilized all the berry bushes, garlic & shallots & then got them remulched. Side dressed & mulched the onions. Planted some bean seeds in the garden & was flipping the plexiglass in place, it hit my big toenail & ripped it 97% off. So, a trip to the ER where the 3 docs on said they wouldn't touch it. They called 4 other places who also said they wouldn't touch it. One Doc felt bad for me at this point so she caved & numbed it up & cut off what she could. Gave me antibiotics & a referral to a podiatrist to get the rest of it removed. It never hurt until now, holy cow is it throbbing! I'm guessing not much happening in the garden for the next couple of days, I can't get a shoe on (nor would I want to).

Out here we can goto the zoo and get free compost from their manure. They are federally licensed so it has to pass all kinds of tests bla bla before they can dump it, so it's good #$t man!! Problem is a lot ofpeople do that so sometimes you show up and theres not much left, but most times you can get some.
I find it works better than most the stuff you can buy, mix a bit of top soil, sand in it to keep it open and the plants go crazy in it ad it's free.
