What did you do in the garden today?

I forgot to mention earlier that my bulb auger has become my favorite tool. I purchased it 2 or 3 years ago for planting a bunch of bulbs out front. However, it creates perfect holes for bulbs as well as 3" and 4" transplants, breaks up soil for post holes, and even pulls stuburn tap root weeds.

Thanks! I fill about halfway with used duck bedding and then top with my own mix--topsoil, my compost, mushroom compost, peat moss, and vermiculite.

Do you let the bedding compost first or just use it fresh?

I am very very tempted. I will have over a hundred tomato and pepper seedling going in the ground soon. And probably at least a hundred daffodil bulbs. And dang it I just realized the closest menards is like 3 states away.. Maybe I’ll check one of the local stores tomorrow.

Why?

as little kids wander around all the time it is dangerous to have a pool. too many accidents.

a few years ago in athens there were 4 families with a bunch of kids in the (not too big) backyard. the youngest one (18 mo) was found dead in a shallow fountain.

My understanding is that goat and rabbit poop both can be topdressed with no resting period. No surprise, I intend to have both those kinds of critters eventually. I've heard that a bit of chicken manure is okay too, so long as it isn't on the roots, but don't quote me.

I put some chicken manure in a bucket, fill it with water and use it in my garden. no harm. pure chicken manure would burn plants.

Had 10,000lbs of horse manure delivered. Rolling up sleeves. Garden just got real!!

I found some yard bags at the dollar store. They measure a bit larger than a half barrel. I’m also going to use feed bags. I guess you could try just about anything

feed bags we have here would break soon.
