What did you do in the garden today?

The plan today:
step 1: Survive the day - I feel like crud still but better than yesterday morning.
step 2: make it through this work shop I have to lead form 11am-1pm and the the meeting I have 1pm-2pm. I'm very hoarse and my throat is killing me, so this is really a challenge today.
step 3: ditch work as early as possible and get to the hardware store to buy grass seed and exchange the broken weeding tool.
step 4: spread grass seed in certain areas and weed and feed over the established grass.
step 5: get into the garden and plant the strawberries and onions that are expected to arrive today from Gurneys. (going to be 200 onions now since I couldn't cancel them but already bought sets at the store)
step 6: Transplant the largest pepper starts (now plants that are forming buds I keep removing) into the garden.
step 7: water the garden and grass seed
step 8: get over feeling like crap

Should be a good day!

The Littles have a new playpen. I picked up some window screens from Habitat and added hinges for easy storage and use. When they can fly to 2.5 feet high, I'll toss a frost sheet on the top with some clamps. I'll build them a swing this morning to play and roost on.

Loose plans to drive the dog to the V-E-T for a quick nail trip and then to town to the tractor store for a B-A-T-H and order more alpaca feed.

I'll check the seeds in the starting shed on my way down to let the birds out and move some more tomato trays to the greenhouse.

I really need to get the mulch walkways in the garden and get going inside the garden walls. LOL.

Have a seedy day all.
Lol. I am glad that I am not the only one who spells the bad words around the furbabies.

Good morning gardeners. Good golly @igorsMistress, those temps scare the **ap out of me. It's 68F in my sunroom with the pellet stove going and I'm in a tee shirt and sandals. The temps outside are in the low to mid 40s right now. It's supposed to get near 70F today. The plan is to test out the new weed whacker/ mini mower this morning then do the big yard with the riding mower this afternoon. The backyard may have to wait for another dry day. Yesterday I up planted my peppers, okra, and dill, prepped two garden beds and did some edits in my garden plan. I'm planting the okra in the raised bed with the bell peppers, well, as soon as they are ready to go outside. The summer squash is going in the salad greens bed and the cucumbers are going into the little round bed where I planted peas last year. I've found a couple of places to sneak in the dill so that was almost fun. I really hate creeping charlie. Good grief it is such a pain. It tries to takeover the asparagus bed. On my garden walk this morning, all is well with the salad greens except I'm not sure about the lettuce. I may have to plant that again. The curly endive is starting to pop up, the tiny kale plants are showing signs of growth and the row of carrots I planted is germinating now and starting to poke through the soil. I'm hoping to get the squash and cucumbers planted outside today as well as the replacement daisies in the front yard cutting garden. The zinnia and marigold starts should be ready to go outside next week. And yes, @Sueby, I think it's a breed thing. DD's little rescue Jack Russell mix is a better speller than most 2nd graders. We are now trying to spell synonyms but I'm sure sweet little Ellie will figure it out soon enough.
It sounds like things are going great there, you got rain recently you lucky lady. We had a small chance but got nothing. Can’t wait to see pics from you this year!

Best of luck. I love the when it's in the 80s. 100+ is hot for sure. Make sure the ducks have plenty of shade and a clean pool/pond before that hits.

It's getting into the 80s here today even. 68 and sunny right now though. I'm sitting on my patio with my laptop under the new gazebo having coffee. It's lovely out here. It seems that the low hanging cold front receded and a surge of warm air pushed north. Everybody from the south west up into the plains and midwest seems warmer than usual this week. I imagine it's going to go east for you East Coasters out there just like the cold front did.
Oh yes, three pools for their swimming pleasure lol. And as much shade as I can provide.
Ironically the water in the pond evaporates quickly and gets dirty enough it’s not feasible in summer I think so it’ll be used in the cooler months to limit water usage. Which is too bad, it’s deep.

The potato bags (2) are in the garden now. I am trying to not panic as yet another structure (the old duck house) is falling apart (I used a pallet from it to elevate the bags). I will plant the vine seeds (cucumbers, watermelon, pumpkin...) next week probably. The weather is still too unpredictable to put things in the ground.

Today I weeded the perimeter of a round flower bed. Not sure of the size but it took me about three hours. There are bricks around the edge, then a six inch or so space, then a couple of rows of big rocks—and finally the flower bed on top. The six inch space gets overrun with grass and weeds and this was the year to finally tackle it. Of course the actual bed had its share of weeds too—there are quite a few perennial things there.
I also trimmed a small forsythia hedge.
After that I took the winter coverings off my fig tree and was happy to see new growth! 🙂

Before all this I cleaned up the little chicks “nursery” (scooped out the old bedding and put in new) and swept the shed/coop up.

I am ready for my adult beverage now!!
