What did you do in the garden today?

My lilac bush is finally getting a few blooms. Otherwise, we are still suffering from the chills that killed the multiple buds. It’s still early, and getting into the 80’s the next few days. I’ll have to bring buckets of water to the fruit trees.
I mowed today, and managed to avoid itty bitty chicks! Stupid birds know I won’t hurt them, so they don’t run away.

Loving all the garden pictures! Pulled loads of greens all over the beds trying to make room for the tomatoes. The rabbits were all so stuffed they'd just look at me, belch, and wave me away. Got another bucket of compost tea started and have just about enough foliage for a second one. Planted a load of tomatoes but tons more to plant or pot up. Potted up some of the pepper seedlings and moved my wintered over peppers out of the greenhouse.

They've got buds all over them so I'm hoping for my best crop ever.

Still working on getting the greenhouse deck presentable, still a way to go.

I had to pull the oregano that I'd planted next to the gooseberries last season, it tried to completely over-grow the gooseberry bush next to it. My hands still smell awesome though. I had no idea it would go that nuts, good thing the rabbits can eat that too.

I had a heck of a time getting the ladies back in the run, they'd been out just about all day and 4 of them had decided they just did not want to go back inside. And after I'd bragged about how good they were too.

It's spitting a little mist now but we're hoping for some real rain tonight. This used to be a notoriously wet climate but it just isn't anymore. I really need to invest in a rain catching and storage system.

How do you like your greenhouse? I saw the same one online and gave it some serious thought, but didn't pull the plug.

Wow. Our chickens are the only road smart creatures we have. Never had a close call with the mower or the car. They aren’t scared they just move out of the way. The dogs and cats have almost been hit before though on more than one occasion.

My lilac bush has not grown an inch since I planted it years ago, and never blooms! Looked it over closely yesterday and finally realized why. SOMEBODY has been EATING it! Probably somebody whose name I should not mention, but whose initials are... WHITE TAILED DEER!!!!

Wow. Our chickens are the only road smart creatures we have. Never had a close call with the mower or the car. They aren’t scared they just move out of the way. The dogs and cats have almost been hit before though on more than one occasion.

When everyone used to always free range, they ran towards me, and even laid down right in front of the mower!

Well I did not catch anybody in the act but the damage is way too high for it to have been rabbits, turtles or any other critters unless they were using pogo sticks or stilts, so .... I can't think who else to blame! I will google later and see if deer do this.

How do you like your greenhouse? I saw the same one online and gave it some serious thought, but didn't pull the plug.

I love it but we go it assembled, attached to a deck, and delivered. Then last fall we had a guy lift it, lay down heavy landscape fabric topped with gravel and set it back down. We're missing a few little bits but got a few additional bits. It has this cool hydraulic vent on top that operates without electricity. It's perfect for us.

I already eat my cucumbers! tomatoes are next (ate 2 cherry). letuce is about to finish but I am going to plant chards. I need greens for my chickens. corn, zucchini, peppers and beans are doing well.
