What did you do in the garden today?

OMG I actually KNOW this one! The cute fuzzy critters are up and active and running around as a survival trait almost instantly and need those feathers for warmth. OC they still need mom on ocassion.
Nest birds aren't as self reliant, in fact, most are blind for a while. Mom keeps them warm, the lack of feathers, helps keep them clean. Then comes the pin feather stage, What mom wouldn't want to sit on that?!?!

I was going to plant tomatoes today. Storms in the forecast for a week, but temps are good. I can't avoid storms forever.
However, half an hour in a 100' greenhouse zapped all my energy. I got all the plants set out and watered them, but planting will have to wait for tomorrow, and I'll spread it out.
Winds were howling over 30, it was dripping humid out, and 85 degrees. I'm not ready for that.
I had a neighbor come over and take home a dozen free plants.
I still need to plant the corn starts too.

I got to handle the adult and baby (one) mourning doves that were here a few years ago. It was quite an experience! Duckling wouldn’t touch the baby until it got feathers. :gig 004672E4-28A7-4BC8-8AB4-EAF90F18FA45.jpeg

Hi all, not sure when I’ll catch up. I’m still on May12th. Tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and squash are growing in straw bales. I need to find my seeds... I have also started some plants in my hoop structure in pots. A little pretty stuff going in the flower bed on the East side of the house. We’ll see if it gets enough sun. Some stuff is coming back after the frost, so that is good. Also found an incredible bargain on deck sealant and stain, so we got that done. Enjoying lots of showers, so coat 2 is on indefinite hold.

No, I don’t recommend handling wild birds. These doves just happened to not care that we wanted to touch them. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that they were nesting inside the coop, and not only saw and heard me daily, but realized that the food and water was coming from me. They willingly came to us like any of my poultry.
I just don’t want anyone holding their tongue about it. It’s not a normal occurrence.

So..... due to circumstances in the community we live in my husband and i feel we have no choice but to sell our beautiful ranch. Its been days of tears and not a lot of sleep. We don’t know if we can find a place to rent that will allow us to keep our goats and chickens but were are trying very hard to find something. The plan is to rent here in California for a year or two then get out of the state. If any of you have suggestions for places to live in a rural setting with decent weather ( not too hot and not too cold dont mind a bit of snow now and then)! Good food growing conditions. Decent people, good internet( hubbs needs it for work) and lots of nature for me( minus too many skeeters) please send me ideas. We are thinking maybe flagstaff.
so today in the garden, I did a little clean up and weeding for some photos for our realtor. As soon as i finish the weeding ( ill be using a weed wacker instead if hand pulling my beds as I usually do) i will begin potting up many of my veggies, small fruit trees and berry bushes. I will also begin taking cutting from my plants to take with. Its so depressing as my garden is off to an amazing start this year. I grew everything from seed and moved the plants in and out everyday as soon as they germinated for weeks, Best strawberries ever this year( those are going with me for sure. ) were trying to be excited for new chapter, it’s financially sound decision, but im leaving behind 11 years of working the land, restoring habitats and the soils. It is coming to be what i envisioned now i have to leave it behind. Heres some shots of the house i took today.
