What did you do in the garden today?

Oh that's awful @Sooner Magnolia! :hugs

I don't mind worms in fruits and vegetables. if they are alive I will be alive as well, lol.

thank you for identifying Garden Star-of-Bethlehem. it is not a weed in our climate. it dies with heat and comes back in fall. it is the same size it was 7 years ago.
I dies here too, but it seems to have spread all over the place around here. It's even in the lawn now.

I don't think this would work for what I'm looking for. Straw bale gardening is more of a temporary solution. I'm looking for a permanent bed for perennials, shrubs, and bulbs. Also, I call my dog a "pup" because she isn't fully matured but she is already 80 lbs and could easily leap over a straw bale. I am thinking about creating a raised bed that is somewhere between 15" - 30" high, but also include a chicken wire fence to a height of 3' - 4' above that just to keep her out. I'm hoping the added chicken wire will be temporary until she gets out of the destructive puppy stage in a year or two.
I used straw bales to support the tobacco stakes that hold the 4 ft chicken wire on the perimeter of my 20 x 40 foot garden space. Every year I move the old composted straw to beds... it works really well a permanent solution if you want it to :) and your dog agrees, lol

Yesterday I spent most off the day inside helping write/type my husband's job application. We've had LOTS of rain, so we haven't had to wateror been able to mow. Locked up my chickens after dark. We noticed this morning that 2 of the girls were dead in the neighbor's yard next door. I thought an owl carried them.over, but they weren't eaten at all. Neighbor and I determined that their dogs probably played with them late in the afternoon. They have a German Shepard and big hound. Anyway, i guess that's better than a predator I'll have to keep dealing with, but still sad. My daughter was especially sad to lose.(Chubby) Chica, one of our 2 green egg layers. I may get some chicken wire to put on our side so they don't go over there. It.would take a long roll though.
1: How did they get them? Yes they are predators also .. a pellet gun or call animal patrol

Thanks. I think we have those flowers too. Not as many here as my yard when i was a kid growing up in town. We have lots of pretty weeds and wild bushes. Just not a big fan of the poison ivy I've seen this year. I'm allergic so DH will have to deal with it.

My chickens must have gone into their yard. They have a hot wire to keep their dogs in, so that might have made it harder for the girls to retreat. My free ranging hens, my problem. The neighbors are golden.

Aahhh Crap still Stinks big time. Yup then contain the birds
We're on 5 acres and I really like to let them be chickens. This is the first incident in years with them getting in trouble next door. I guess chances go up the more girls you have. We had 18. Here is the fence. I'm sure the neighbors won't mind if I add chicken wire to the section where they would most likely cross if anyone ventured over again.

Do you have any pictures? I'm curious about what it might look like. Given that it will be up by our house, I know my husband will be really particular that it has to look nice. In the garden, he wouldn't care....but around the house he wants everything to look really clean cut and decorative.

I'm.wondering about these spots on some of the squash and cucumbers. I'm assuming some kind of mildew? Do I need to treat it or just wait for drier weather? Also, anybody know what these plants are? They're pretty neat in my opinion.
