What did you do in the garden today?

Went out for a walk in the yard & took a few pics.

Anyone know what this is? The flowers grow out of what looks like a clump of grass.

My iris popped today!

My clematis is blooming. It's not the prettiest color or pattern for a clematis but it survives all on it's own & that's important at this house. Ha!

Not really sure what this orange flower is either. Came with the house. :idunno

That looks like garlic chives .

I'm looking to start a pollinator garden too. I have an area by the coop that the mower doesn't fit in & it's blocked off by fence all around. Last year I put a deep layer of chips down to suppress the weeds & I had hoped to start planting this year but I just didn't get around to it. I wanted damaged plants from HD last night but that didn't work. I hate paying for flowers so I'll just start dividing what I have or pick up year end clearance stuff if I see it.

The plan is for it to be kind of wild & to let it do its thing. All native plants that attract bees or butterflies. Kind of like this is what I picture:

Yesterday I went ahead and harvested most of my broccoli since I am having trouble with worms. I soaked them in salt water overnight and just spent the past 30 minutes carefully rinsing them and they trying to find all the hidden (dead) worms to clear them out. If either of my teenagers were to come across one at dinner time, I guarantee they would never eat another thing from my garden as long as they live.... They are just dramatic like that! 😂🙄

So I'm currently trying to figure out what I want to make with the broccoli to camouflage anything in case I missed one.

This might make me officially a bad parent.... 😂

I haven't been a teenage in a LONG time but I'd react the same way. :gig Those nasty worms are why I don't grow broccoli or cauli - 2 of my favorite veggies!

@chickengr I dropped it into a plant identifier & it is a Garden Star-of-Bethlehem. Or a weed as most people call it. :lau

I don't mind worms in fruits and vegetables. if they are alive I will be alive as well, lol.

thank you for identifying Garden Star-of-Bethlehem. it is not a weed in our climate. it dies with heat and comes back in fall. it is the same size it was 7 years ago.

Yesterday I spent most off the day inside helping write/type my husband's job application. We've had LOTS of rain, so we haven't had to wateror been able to mow. Locked up my chickens after dark. We noticed this morning that 2 of the girls were dead in the neighbor's yard next door. I thought an owl carried them.over, but they weren't eaten at all. Neighbor and I determined that their dogs probably played with them late in the afternoon. They have a German Shepard and big hound. Anyway, i guess that's better than a predator I'll have to keep dealing with, but still sad. My daughter was especially sad to lose.(Chubby) Chica, one of our 2 green egg layers. I may get some chicken wire to put on our side so they don't go over there. It.would take a long roll though.
