I dug some Egyptian Walking Onions to put in my spaghetti sauce. They are just starting to grow the topsets, but those won't be ready for a few weeks. Once they are, then I'll be good for onions until the regulars are ready this fall, I think. One thing I don't need to buy at the store.
When I dig EWOs, I get a big bag of green onions out of the plant. Put them in with eggs, rice, beans, whatever.
My goal is to buy as little food at the store as possible. We won't ever be self sufficient, unless we gave up milk, cheese, meat, non-native fruit, coffee, tea, etc. I just like adding fewer things to my shopping list.
Just for fun, list what you DON'T buy at the grocery any more. Here's mine:
Eggs

, onions, cilantro, tomatoes, green beans, butternut squash. I buy potatoes about 3 months of the year, but mostly we just skip them then. I might have to buy a bit of garlic before my next harvest.
