What did you do in the garden today?

We have two gardens lol. That said one of us gardeners has lost our mind and I’m not sure which. Since someone thought it was a good idea to plant about 25,000 square feet this year. Not to mention the sunflower fields and the covercrops baiting the deer out of the main garden. We have absolutely no self control. :lau
I definitely won’t be doing this much next year unless the world goes crazy(crazier i should say). I’ll probably restrict myself to 2,000sqft next summer.

when I move to my new place I have a separate plot that is 1/2 acre. I bought it for my second garden. the one near home is about 1000 sqft. and 1 acre is to keep animals.

So I took the peacock down & Tom isn't happy! He is hanging out where she was, I keep chasing him away. :he Hopefully he gets over her soon.

My garlic is producing scapes, that's good. My beans look great. My squash in pots is fantastic, not so good in the straw bale - I don't understand that. I threw some fertilizer on them to see if it'll help. :idunno Peppers are still disappointing but hoping they'll pick up with the heat coming. Some do have flower buds.

I split a bunch of purple coneflowers & black eyed susans & got them added around the shed & got it mulched. Looks good, it hides the stone that the shed sits on. I got a couple tractor bucket fulls of wood chips out into the sun to dry so I can get them in the run & not worry about mold.

The HVAC guys are here installing a couple mini-splits. So happy they're here just in time for the heat wave coming - 4 days of above 90. Perfect timing. Speaking of I need to make ice blocks for the chickens.

Have a good one all!

Good morning all. That poor tom will be devastated @Sueby. My shopping trip took a bit longer than anticipated yesterday. Road construction all around me slowing traffic to stop and go. I got some of the patio stones laid out but still need to finish that off today. It got pretty humid in the afternoon so DD volunteered to mow the backyard grass for me. Scratch that off the list. My bell peppers and okra are growing very slowly as are the summer squash. One of the squash plants keeps producing mini yellow squash. Cute, but not productive. The cooler type crops are doing better and when the impending heatwave hits us this weekend the romaine lettuce should be a somewhat respectable size to pick. I did spread fertilizer around on my garden walk and did a little grooming of the carrot and kale patch. I'm tossing around the idea to direct seed more summer squash plants. I had to go to Tractor Supply to pick up scratch and shavings and found a really cute planter on sale. I couldn't resist. I downloaded a few pictures for your enjoyment.

I gave a dozen eggs each to 2 broody hens. Well, one got 11 b/c one of the eggs I bought was a little small. I should probably just go ahead and get this rooster LOL. $15 from a local guy, and I do have 2 lavender Orpingtons myself. I'm still not sure I want the crowing and encouraging girls to lay in strange places though. I'm thinking about trying to move these flowers I sowed last year. They haven't bloomed yet, so they're just in the way of everything else behind them.

According to the spring vs summer planting guide I found for our area, I need to plant peppers and tomatoes in two weeks. I have tomato seeds... but I don't have any pepper seeds yet, lol. Might order a couple today, along with anything else I'm desperate to try out this year. Wonder if it's too late to plant okra and sweet corn... I'll check.

Raining again today. Still less than 1/4 inch total. I was going to put up my last trellis but someone moved all my poles:he. The green beans are blooming and the kidney beans on the otherside of the garden are starting to bulk up. I also got my first onion and squash flower! Anyone have problems with the first flush of female flowers opening before the males? It bugs me it feels like a waste.
Planning on putting the herb planted together and stringing the cucumber trellis later.
