What did you do in the garden today?

Nothing done in the garden today. Kid had an outdoor training event. We drove 150 miles, in pouring rain the entire drive bc we were going in the same direction as the rain clouds. Then it rained for the entire 5 hour training, I sat in a picnic shelter for the 5 hours. Once training was done, the rain stopped…of course. The ride home was more pleasant since the rain had passed. But, the garden is quite happy! We are getting wilting cukes, and melons, unfortunately.

Picked more beans and chard. First two cukes are growing! Squash about to hit overproduction (been 1 every other day or so, I saw 3 female flowers open this morning....here we go!) 😂
Still waiting on red tomatoes. Got a tiny bit of weeding done before the rain returned. Saw my first bell pepper fruit starting! Couple honey nut squashes are growing for the winter but no other female flowers on the other varieties yet. Pulled all my garlic yesterday, total of 65! Woot!

Been experimenting with my old 12v water pump to get water from the lake into the main garden. Put a rainfall hose nozzle on the discharge end and it works pretty good to water the plants manually. Takes me almost half an hour to water the plants manually, but it's the best solution I have come up so far this year with the gear I currently have. Would prefer to set a sprinkler on the garden and leave it go for half an hour, but my current pump is not strong enough for a sprinkler.

Starting to see some buttercup squash developing on the vines. Only 2 so far. But there are still lots of flowers so I hope it will start to fill out. I have been giving the squash extra water the past few days because Dear Wife informed me that the plant was too dry. Seems to be perking up now.

Planning out some new raised beds for the backyard by the chicken coop and run. Thinking about spacing the new raised beds far enough from the existing raised beds so I could set up a cattle panel hoop between the beds - using the framing of the raised beds. Can anyone tell me how far apart the raised beds should be placed for a decent height hoop that I can comfortably walk under? Any website that shows the hoop height given the width of the base and the length of the cattle panel hoop?

As it just so happens....

Morning all.
Spent yesterday morning pinning quilt pieces, mid morning and early afternoon at the market and hardware store.
Saturday, at a hardware store, was miserable. The air conditioning wasn't working, half their cashiers didn't show up to work (who are these people that can just blow off work?), and the plumbing was backed up. Needless to say, I did not stay longer than to grab my listed items.
Spent FOUR hours installing a 'simple to install' ceiling fan. Not my first rodeo, by a long shot, but this thing was poorly designed, no room for your hands to work.

Garden-wise. I'm waiting for gypsum, there wasn't any in town. Hot sultry nights, and hot humid days have slowed things down. I need to do a bug check though.

I stopped a woman from buying bad peaches at the market and we got to chatting garden, bugs, blight, rot for about 30 minutes. LOL. She was saying how her tomatoes were massive but had no fruit really. Sigh....potted in all season, fertilized potting mix, and fed once a week- gave her all green and no bling. I told her they're is still plenty of season left, to cut back on the food. At least she planted indeterminates.

Have a great day all.

Morning all. We got some rain overnight, happy I won't have to water. We're going to some tractor show thingie today. They have a working mill & all sorts neat things to see. :idunno

I slept till 9:30  - this Lupus really kicks my butt sometimes. I need to get out & do a bug check & see how my mildewy squash is doing.

Thanks for posting that @WthrLady - timing was impeccable, I'm heading to Tractor Supply today to price out some cattle panels for the garden! & get some shavings for the coop.

Morning gardeners, the weather here today is very nice! We adjusted a bit the run area for one flock and made another 4 wire towers for planting grass, wild flowers and veggies.

Big girls watched what we were doing.

Baby chicks also enjoy their first watermelon in this world, and they are soooo cute! Can't wait to see their feather pattern when they grow up.
