What did you do in the garden today?

More rain expected this afternoon.... Kicking myself because I needed to treat the peaches, grapes, apples, and tomatoes with some Captan but didn't get around to it before it rained. Hoping that doesn't encourage an explosion of fungal problems. Weather app says it is supposed to rain until 8ish tonight. Maybe I can spray this evening? I don't usually like to leave my stuff wet going into evening but it's going to be wet anyway and at least the Captan might help control fungus that releases because of the rain....

Thanks for the video from MIgardener on pruning tomatoes. Love that guy... I need to prune mine quite a bit. It's just been too hot or I had other priorities but I'm going to try to get to it today if the rain breaks....

I have some eggs in the incubator who are going into lockdown today! Yay! I've got to get the brooder ready. Thinking about trying to put a couple under my broody hen who has been sitting for weeks with no luck.

I found a third tomato hornworm on my tomato plants today. I'm amazed by how big they get and how much they can eat! Blacklight flashlight is on the way from Amazon. Should be here before dark today.

I left the co-broodies together. I've seen 1 super cute little chipmunk chick so far. Really hoping it is the one I accidentally helped start early yesterday after it rolled out of the nest. I hit the shell on the kennel door trying to put it back. Not a tiny crack either..... It was chirping, so I tucked it under them and crossed my fingers.

Found this large butterfly in the garden. Not sure what kind, but I did make sure it doesn't produce tomato hornworm caterpillars.

DId you hear that high pitched, shrill screaming about 4pm Central time?? OMG what WAS that?!?!
Oh wait, that was me.
The noise I make when wandering the garden head down picking tomatoes, and when I stood up, I knocked a sunflower leaf, that was covered in about a billion baby black and orange caterpillars. Caterpillars, that when disturbed, take on the defensive position of tuck and roll, so they can just fall to the ground and crawl back up the nearest sunflower stalk.
Unfortunately for them, my tank top cleavage was between them and the ground.

LOL. chickens won't eat them either. LOL. If they weren't making such a mess of my leaves they could stay. But I know there are some out there I missed.

Found more this evening: Bordered Patch Butterfly caterpillars.....
