What did you do in the garden today?

@igorsMistress it is amazing what you have done there - it looks fantastic!

Holy cow, that is redic! I would love to snag those - such a waste.
I pulled the two straw bales apart and mulched the strawberry bed, the garlic, and the multiplier onions. There was half a bale left, so that went into the chicken run.

We're waiting for the leaves to finish falling, but since they're oak, it'll be a while. I hope to rake up some for the garden. I put some in the chicken run, and they have enjoyed scratching through them. That's the last thing I have planned for in the garden. Anything else will be weather and whim dependent.
I'm jealous! My bed is still green despite the freezing temps we've had this past week. & it's supposed to warm up this coming week so I have to wait.

I feel like I need Egyptian walking onions! Everyone else has them but me. That's why I ended up with strawberries. :lau I'm such a follower. 🤭

I have a pile of leaf litter to bag up today. The leaves are really hanging on though, I've never seen fall happen so late. I need to scoop a little poop from the big coop - I have 1 hen that has always had horribly watery poop so I have to scoop it once a week. Till she moved in I never bothered, just stirred it up & threw in some more shavings but it's too wet in there now. She's made a lot more work for me.

Got the Christmas jam packaged up for DHs family this am. We are mailing it all out next week, super early but last year we mailed in early Dec & some didn't get it till Jan. I'd rather have it arrive early than late & the post office is such a mess who knows.

My indoor lettuce is coming up. My outdoor lettuce could use some water today as we haven't had rain in 12 days.

That's all I got! Have a good day everyone.

All this talk of walking onions . Forgive me if I already told this story last spring . I really can't remember . My dad loved green onions . I like cooked onions . So I was gardening at his place and he would wipeout my onions . So I saved a bunch of top sets from the walking onions . Planted a couple of long rows of top sets and some regular onions . Told him which rows he could eat . After awhile he asked what kind of onions I planted for him . They were getting hot- strong . So I confessed and let him wipeout most of the other onions . :gig

My walking onion clumps are pretty big, so when I want some onions, I cut a clump in half with the shovel. If I just want green onions, I snip some here and there. If you dig the whole clump, that clump won't grow back, obviously, so I also dig whole clumps when I need to thin them out.

Thanks Sueby! Ducks and bunnies help a lot!

I haven't frowning walking onions before, but plan to preserve them as pickled onions.
Okay, I was pining for pickled onions and I bet walking onions would be perfect for that. That decided me, walking onions for my JA bed for sure.

It's so cold and rainy today, sitting inside and playing on the computer. Only because the weather is bad of course...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
