What did you do in the garden today?

You will teach yourself that answer, hopefully only the first time, you find a fireant mound nustled in the grass you are trolloping through.

Just like you will answer the question, what does stinging nettle look like?? The first time you go picking spearmint bare handed. :)

Nah, I’ve been a bare footer for years. I wear flip flops in the backyard to avoid duck poop, but I’ve been bitten by plenty of ants.

Regular ants are not an issue, fire ants BIG issue. Over the years I have grown less tolerant of them, both physically and.. mentally... they leave me with a big pussy blister with each bite so I need to be more careful of them now than I did years ago, not to mention when I do get bit, I generally go for the flame thrower as revenge... so it's best to just wear crocks so hopefully you see them crawling and can swat before they sting you.

I did used to wear flip flops but twigs and stuff get jammed up in them, bust the pillar out, etc, were not rugged enough so I went with the crocks. basically a flip flop on steroids.

I watered my garden today and enjoyed the warm weather a bit. We were in the mid 70s. Wild Christmas, lol. My first really warm Christmas in almost a decade.
Same here temp wise. Kind of par, been down this route before. Nasty weather hits in earnest about mid January, then it'll be cold. The BIG problem is when it comes back up to this temperature in March, and everything goes, Oh hey LOOK it's SPRING!!! you get all bloomed out, then get a week of frost..... otherwise I rather enjoy the warmer climate. My aching arthritic bones and all the metal hardware in them, appreciate the NON frost.

Good morning gardeners. We need to make a trip to TSC for some hay and stop at Home Depot for some soil.

Yup, I’m quite familiar with fire ants, been bit plenty of times. Still just flip flops or barefoot. The things that make me wear the flip flops are the hot ground in summer, I’m in the desert and asphalt gets HOT, duck/chicken poop in the backyard and to the grocery store. Otherwise, forget it.

In florida it's no different on the hot. Ive I guess, got accustomed to it? it burns but not bad enoughf or me to shoe up if it's just a quick traverse. The clods are just for the gardening really, because back there the chickens free range and picking poop out tween the toes is not a fun task! not to mention and our south american friends can verify this, too easy to pick up parasites if your birds got them, or any animals really, by stepping in poop.

Besides, stepping in poop, makes the wine taste funny after you mash the grapes :D

Good morning gardeners. Happy Boxing Day and Happy Kwanzaa to those that celebrate. I'm just calling this a relaxing day and recuperating from Christmas. The Wee Farm has been quite busy and noisy the past two days. Christmas was a frosty white this year that started with some lovely quiet snowflakes and turned into an ice storm. The temps finally got above freezing and the trees and shrubs are shedding their coating of ice. I found my garden planning workbook and started working on the plan for this Spring. When DD announced that she wanted us to make some of our Christmas presents a few months ago I was a bit panicked because I'm not all that into crafting. I managed to pull a couple of ideas from things I used to enjoy doing nearly 40 years ago. I made a garden hod for her (I forgot to take a picture) I personalized it with her name and some garden type illustrations that I wood burned onto the end. I also made her an apron to go with her own kitchen decor. Among other things, she made a cross stitch sampler for my Wee Farm. It's beautiful and will be mounted on my kitchen wall. This took gift giving to a whole new level this year and something we look forward to continuing. The seed catalogs and emails are starting to trickle in. The Old Farmer's Almanac posted a list of free seed catalogues both online and paper copy. This I liked because I can see what supplier is more local. Time to start working on Spring dreams. Have a great day everyone!

PS: the family four-legged friends got homemade bandannas. Very stylish! LOL!
