What did you do in the garden today?

wicked windy
You're wicked Massachusetts now. :plbb

@Acre4Me best of luck with the surgery, I hope all goes well!

So all that ruckus yesterday was worth it, I had TWO hens lay yesterday for the first time in months. :yesss:

Warm out there but, as Sarah said, wicked windy. I took a walk through the garden this am & picked up the plastic on the hoop house over the lettuce, I forgot to take it down & it got snowed on & collapsed. I should have some lettuce in there soon!

I also saw some bulbs coming up on the side of the house. Not sure what they are, but as DH was caulking the improperly installed, leaking window ( ), I noticed them. I think maybe crocus or hyacinth or something like that.

Went to habitat to see if they had a door and window for the hoop house.
No window of any useful size or shape, but I managed a glass/screen storm door for only $4.75! And 14 large brass door hinges for only $10
But I forgot to swing through the lumber yard and get 2 2x4x12s argh.

Good afternoon gardeners. It’s windy here as well, enough to keep me inside for now due to allergies. My pills don’t seem to be enough these last couple days, blah. I had to move the elephant ears to full shade because they were looking burned around the edges. Our weather is supposed to be pretty nice this weekend but cooling off again next with a slight chance of rain. Rain would be good :fl

Look what followed me home today.
We had to go out to get hubby’s antibiotic. Tried to get out before the ice came but instead made it out in the ice. 🥴🙄
On the way home I wanted to stop at the local feed store as yesterday they advertised $1.69 Cornish cross chicks I wanted to get some before they were all gone. …..
I was too late. 😞
These are cockerels of unknown heritage. 10 for a dollar. So I’m raising these for meat instead

You all going to off them? keeps me from doing it as better half will but not thrilled ?
@karenerwin
Yep. I do all the butchering and “offing”. Hubby can’t handle it.
I don’t enjoy the killing but I do it to raise meat for my freezer. I just know that if I want the meat that I raised myself I also have to do the killing and butchering. Although I have heard that some people send their birds to the butcher. But for me that doesn’t make it affordable.

I've wanted to raise meat birds but I have no idea how to clean them. I had considered raising some & sending them out to be done but I just don't really have a meat bird set up here. :idunno
I had no idea what I was doing years ago when I got my first meat chicks. I found a very informative video thread on BYC that I watched many times as I was ready to kill and butcher the birds
