I wouldn't know. I'm pretty archaic.
Anytime I order something online I put it in the cart, then give it to DW to do the rest, or just tell DW what I want and she does it. Lol

I always have trouble ordering online from any nursery . I finally give up and call the order in . Got one I tried today . After entering info 3 times I quit .

I have worked in critical infrastructure for my entire 25+ year career. I also work with emergency management at all levels (local, state, and federal). I have been through preparedness training for every kind of scenario imaginable, including EMP. Here's what ought to scare you. There is a very small, very old group of experts who advise Congress and the DoD on EMP. They have been warning for decades about what would happen should we be hit. It's not just a one and done type scenario. Did you know that North Korea has 2 satellites positioned over the US that could trigger an EMP at any time? Did you know that one of the worst dangers from an EMP are city septic and waste management plants? There are motorized lifts that keep those systems moving. If they shut down for more than 4 hours, the sludge in them will solidify. The only fix at that point is rip and replace. That effectively destroys an entire city's waste removal. Now you have the potential for a humanitarian health crisis complicated by disease, contaminated water, etc. Scary stuff.

I can’t say I’m surprised, something good to know though. I’m aware of the old guard, it’s too bad nobody thinks to listen. Let’s spend all this money waging war instead of fixing things at home. Sorry, off that box.

I have no experience with fibro, but I hear its tough. I also have degenerative disc, 3 herniated discs, spondylolysis (a fracture) & stenosis - my back is a huge mess from a car accident & the wrath of mother nature after it. Man it stinks to get old, I don't recommend it.

I agree. More realistic problems with the craziness in the world is disruption of the supply chain similar to what we experienced during the first several months of the Covid pandemic. Our takeaway from that experience is to maintain a healthy stock of potty paper and the very most essential to living items. Stressing out on worst case scenarios is exhausting. I’d rather spend my energy on living in the joy of the everyday. Tending my chickens and growing my garden. And I too have all the seeds I need except for the potatoes. I’m just waiting for them to be delivered.

Afternoon all. I just got home from the worm farm. @karenerwin even if there’s no tour available, you can look around the farm and it’s amazing. April and May are great times to go because the food forest will be in full swing. If you can take the tour I highly recommend it! I came to realize that I’ve learned a lot on my own by trial and error and that every gardener has a trail of dead plants behind them. One thing I learned is that everything is grown under 50% shade except artichokes. That includes tomatoes and peppers, melons, everything. The shade is only from above, not down the sides, but there are buildings and such that shade his crops from the harsh western sun. None of the fruit trees are far from a native or desert adapted tree that will provide shade at various times of day. My apple tree will be between the two lilacs so I think I’m on the right path there. Anyway, it was fun. They also breed black soldier fly larvae and feed their chickens those and garden discards. It was nice to see the whole thing in action. Also, I tried tracking the beach party lilac and it’s in the next town over. Maybe that means it’ll be delivered today, I haven’t received any delivery updates even though I requested them

I have septic here too.

I think I'm all set with seeds. I have a friend doing all my pepper starts for me.

I only ever put down 2 or three pepper plants, so I'll probably just market those or swap for tomatoes with a neighbor.

DH is a hot sauce freak, I make a couple gallons & can it. I just throw a mix of jalapeno, habanero, reapers, ghost, tibetan, etc into the pot & cook em, mill em & can em & it gets him through for probably 6-8 months. I did 32 plants last year & I have 6 jars left. He calls my hot sauce Sueracha.

My sassy little biter laid the cutest little olive colored egg this am.

Just got my Baker Creek order done. Not much stuff, but every little bit helps. I also "needed" an excuse to broaden my pallet of vegetables. I'm going to make myself eat beets somehow. Or the greens, anyway.

Same with my DH and DD. The only peppers I am raising this year is Tabasco and Pepperoncinis. I still have probably 6 gal or more of frozen hot peppers (jalapeños, peach sugar rush, hot banana, Anaheim, and cayenne).

I now have a good start of seeds to make my own fodder. I have wheat, oats, amaranth, millet, and buckwheat. That ought to be enough to get a start and learn how to save seeds. The tough part will be finding a place to plant it where the horses, goats, and chickens can't get to it.
