What did you do in the garden today?

It was so nice outside today!

I got most of the compost pile turned; some is still frozen. I hacked at it with a trowel and a pitchfork. I raked up some thatch, and dug up a bucket of weeds. The weeds came from the heavy soil garden, so the bucket was 2/3 heavy clay mud. I'm surprised that soil is thawed.

My goal is to dig up a bucket of weeds every day I can for the chickens. They loved scratching through the pile. Fun and greens for them, and I'll make a dent in the spring weeds that are coming up now.

Hmm. I imagine the fruit or veggies you might eat grown in this fertilizer would be perfectly safe, but it does seem it was not meant to be made into a soup to roll around in. Not that different from bovine, horse or chicken manure.
OH I beg to differ on that! Human waste is unholy.
And when I work in the garden, I of course get composted manure on me, under my nails etc, I am far from rolling in it, but it gets all over and into open cuts etc.
I'd rather that not be from a human pathogen that managed to escape the inspection process.

Oh wow, there is one sort of close! I am so going to check that out!

I have rolled around in plenty of horse manure in my day & never gotten anything close to what was spread at that event! I would never chose to use it. Ever. To each his own.

Point taken.

Night soil - to each their own. Just not my thing for my reasons.

That said, septic guy was here two weeks ago and he was telling me how they are part of a larger company now that also collects compost food/scraps from all the local schools and yard waste and makes compost to sell.
They looked into doing bio-soil, but the regulations and rules would have killed them and made the process ridiculously expensive and the liability on them was huge. So they decided against it.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. 😁.
I’m hoping that my chicken sitter is remembering to check on all my plant starts and water them if needed. 🤞🙏
I will be so bummed if I go back home to a bunch of dead plants.
I got the ceiling painted in the living room today. Tomorrow’s project is the hallway ceiling and parts of 2 bedroom ceilings. The kitchen cabinets are in 1 so I can’t get to far inside that room. 🤪
We are occupying the other bedroom so I can only get partially in that room too.

Did you know that NYC cant handle all its waste so it is treated compacted and shipped out west. Its bought by the train load as a "cheap" fertilizer and spread on grain fields. I believe out by texas or arizona but havent checked recently.

I'm fine with using humanure when its mine or my families. I know what drugs and residues are in it, as well as how it is composted. But from a municipality? No. Just No.

growing vegetables with heroin, cocain, etc. residues from NYC?

I’m in Poplar Bluff working on that house for this week. I painted the ceilings in 2 rooms and man, am I sore. 😳
I turned 60 yesterday and I feel every minute of it tonight. 🤣
I have 2 more bedrooms ceilings to paint and the living room ceiling. Then I can start on walls. 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and the living room. The hallway and kitchen aren’t quite ready to paint yet.
We did have a realtor stop by today and she has 2 interested parties!!
She did a video tour for 1 out of town group and is bringing the other couple by tomorrow. It would be amazing to get it sold sooner than later. 🤞🙏
Hope you had a great birthday 🎂.
