What did you do in the garden today?

On Sunday we stopped at TSC to pick up some horse food. To get to that section of the store, we have to walk past the chicks. I stopped to look at them and hubby immediately says NO! 😂 As I was standing there looking at them wistfully, some guy with his little girl walks up to look at them too. About that time a store employee walks by and says "you should buy some chicks for your little girl...." The dad says "no, we already have 250 chickens....." 😂 At which point my husband comes up from behind and says "and are going to have about that many if she keeps standing here...." 😂

The guy asked me what breeds we had. I went through the list. He has mostly Cornish cross but a few egg layers too. There were actually Cornish cross chicks for sale at the TSC which is what I was looking at. If only I had the room..... :)

:lau I literally have 2 heating pads for my 2 indoor cats.
My dog has a heated bed.
building a root cellar
Funny, I was just thinking how nice it would be to build one here yesterday! I have no basement so I have no where any good to store my harvest. But I couldn't even come up with anything logical to plead to DH with. :gig

Our house has a root cellar but it is very damp so I have never used it for anything. It used to have electricity too but by the time we bought the house the electric to it had been cut or something. 🤷‍♀️

I bought a book on Amazon with all the details about building one. This last weekend I had DH & DS help me plant 3 trees. They complained the WHOLE time because the soil was impossible to dig through. We were supposed to go down 42 inches. Only got to MAYBE 30 inches because of the shale. DH keeps saying he wants a tractor with a front loader. If I want my root cellar, I think that will have to be the compromise.... 😂 He will build me a root cellar IF AND ONLY IF I buy him a tractor to dig with.....

Have you thought about salvaging it? I imagine you could add some equipment to lower the humidity and it would work for you?

did I pay a ticket to hear a fairy tale?
I said most places, not everywhere. FWIW most tourist traps tend to be embellished in the 'history' they tell about them anyways, it brings in more people that way :)

I've heard this as well.

I wonder if the sea water in the Mediterranean is more potent.
I tried to kill weeds with salt, but it barely kills anything. Our table salt is probably not as potent as that natural sea water.
I think it might be more a function of if it can drain off. If you have a flower pot and pour salt water in it, the salt can't go anywhere so you are stuck with it. If it has someplace to go, ie it runs off / filters into the streams /creeks / rivers /back to the oceans, then it will 'heal' itself. Or if you got good soil which is fairly porous and has adequate drainage, it sinks down to a foot deep or so over time and rain soaking over and over. If the salt is at 2 feet and the plants roots only go to 10 inches, they'll be fine.

Salt is salt, even if you put it on with water, once the water evaporates, the salt is left. So even if you put it on diluted, just use a bit more, when the water evaps and leaves the salt behind, it should do it's job.

If salt NEVER left the soil, then every time a dog pees, or any animal, or a chicken s$%t's in the yard., the salt they naturally excrete would never leave the spot, and eventually they'd poison the planet right?

Death by Chicken Doodycation ? No thanks, it's bad enough when one manages to hit a shoe occasionally.

Hmm, you have given me an angle to work with! He bought the big Case tractor to dig the shop foundation & was going to sell it when he was done. Uh, duh, we knew that wouldn't happen! Buuuut, he owes me for that & it's the perfect use for the other bucket he bought for it & has never used!

So I mentioned the broody the other day who I moved into a special pen to keep her segregated? Well, it appears all 4 babies have hatched! Woooohoooo!

On a separate note, I have 3 broody Silkies who have all decided to jam into the same SMALL nesting box.... Smh. I'm going to have move some of them or the babies will be squashed in no time.
