I found a dead bird and tried calling different places to find out what to do with it. No one ever called me back. The girls seem fine, but i havent let them out since.
I called the extension office, police dept and health dept. the police suggested the health dept, thats the furthest i got.

I can't speak for Ohio but I doubt the Health Dept is the right agency. I have worked in Emergency management for years. Whenever we have an incident that involves animals, we are required to call either Game & Fish or USDA. I would think your state wildlife agency is whom they would refer you to.....

Back when my hubby was my boyfriend, he had a cat that decided she didn't like me. She started peeing on my knitting projects and my chair where I sat to knit. She went to live with one of his friends. I felt like the evil stepmother.

Yeah, I can relate. Cats get jealous when their feel their relationship with their human is jeopardized. My DH has never been abusive or done anything mean to my cat at all. But she loves to snuggle up next to me at night. So does he. She doesn't like him "intruding" on what she perceives as HER space. I laugh but it's really not funny. She pees on anything of his that gets left on the floor - shoes, clothes, towels, hats, his bag, etc. Same with the dogs and their stuff...toys, beds, etc. It's her way of showing her displeasure. Luckily she will only target things on the floor. She doesn't pee on anything elevated such as furniture, counters, etc. She will pee on clothes in a laundry basket, though, if the basket is left on the floor.

It causes a lot of contention between us, but I keep telling him #1) don't leave your stuff on the floor and she won't pee on it, and #2) she is already 8-9 years old. She will only be around another 5 years likely. I know what she is doing is NOT okay. I do my best to try to keep her from destroying things, but she is my baby so it's really hard to be stuck in the middle.

I stopped by the feed store today to pick up some bowls for the new fermented feed "process" that I'm implementing with the chickens starting tomorrow. I'm using some spare livestock panels to section off an area of the run where the goats can't get to the chicken feed. I need a people gate to get in and out of this new area so I inquired about one at the feed store. Holy moley Batman....$90! For a 4 ft farm gate. Yeah, I'm NOT paying that.... I told DH that I will BUILD a small gate using some 1x4s, scrap welded wire, and baling twine. $90....smh. That's robbery.

I'm also not picking up any extra Bermuda seed. I just paid over $500 for 100 lbs of Alfalfa Hay & Pasture seed to be shipped to me from Wisconsin. This seed has 40% alfalfa, 20% perennial ryegrass, 20% orchardgrass, 10% timothy, and 10% clover. I actually seeded Bermuda last summer so hopefully that will be good enough. I just need to try to get some fertilizer that isn't a gazillion dollars to encourage growth. I did go to outsidepride.com and picked up 5lbs of fava bean seed, marshmallow seed, and dandelion seed. I figure I can spread some of that around the pasture too. This is all separate from the proposed feed plot which will have oats, wheat, millet, buckwheat, and amaranth sown. If that doesn't help with the feed bill, then I just need to start culling birds. :/

I just made my first attempt at water glassing eggs. I did not record it since it was my first time and I didn't want any evidence of my bungling efforts. Essentially I picked out 60 clean, shiny beautiful unwashed eggs. Put them in a 3 gallon bucket. Then I measured out 1 quart of distilled water. Added 1 oz (by weight) hydrated lime. Stirred well. Poured in the bucket. Kept repeating this process until all my eggs were covered and I had a good amount of space at the top.

I think that's it, right? From what I've seen....I can keep adding eggs each day as long as they are completely submerged. I have an air tight lid although it is not sealed just yet in case I want to add more eggs in the next few days. But I will eventually seal it. I marked today's date on the bucket. I will open it in December. Then....if I die....I will make sure my heirs do NOT will you all the recipe.

W....T.....H?! You know how rare it actually IS to find a dead bird that hasn't been hit by a car or smashed into a window?
And it's the SONGBIRDS that are spreading it.
Which means to me, that they KNOW it's everywhere, and there's no point.
We're going to end up like UK which has mandatory migration month lockdowns with birds undercover, which will only really effect the pockets of backyard birds and inconvenience their owners. The big boys will wrap it into their cost of production and it won't stop them from getting it anyway, as their birds are ALREADY undercover inside, in cages, or giant open ranging barns and the sparrows Still get in and share it.
Lord this sounds familiar somehow.

That is my thought as well. If that's the case I will take my chances & not keep them locked up. It's too much work & no fun. I'm willing to give it a shot for now with the hopes it's not as bad next year - but after this I'm over it.

Mine are too! I think just about every one is coming up & I thought 75% were dead when I planted. Can't wait to use some!

I got the strawberries & onions uncovered. Hopefully for the last time! I'm pretty sure I've lost quite a few onions to the squirrels. But the garlic looks great as do the shallots. My plan is to move the thyme outside this weekend. Maybe the dill too. I can always start more under the aero garden if it gets too cold. I will start transitioning the rosemary back outside & unwrap the fig tree & move it to the sun room in prep for outside. I need to water the lettuce too. & clean the chicken coop. & turn the compost. & pick up the cow. LOL, why do I look forward to spring?

If you look at the reports you can see it moving north, with the geese. I'll see if I can stand it another 10 days or so. They went into lockdown on the 14th of March. I'd like to see some rain to wash any poo away, and some more time for the song birds to move themselves north more. Still haven't spotted a swallow.

OH and my tomato germination rate is really low.
Almost all are from one company too. So I'm starting to wonder.

I'll grab more seed from another supplier when I go to town later this week.
Still no news from vet.

I don't know about your country but here it is forbidden to spy on other people's property.

I do have a camera. I have two. Which is how I know about his activities. It is legal in my city to have cameras over other people's property as long as it doesn't cover bedrooms or bathrooms. Plus our lots are 40 feet wide. Which is quite tiny. It would be hard to not get any neighbor's property in frame.
