Dog treats it is! In the dehydrator - which is outside. LOL. Everyone said it stinks so put it outside. Used all 9 trays, that's a lot of treats!

what zone are you?

I'm in Zone 5b. I have blueberries, but they don't even have leaves out yet. These came from GA, which I didn't realize when I ordered them.

We're still getting nights in the low-mid 20s. That's the temp up at the house; the blueberry bed is down a hill.

I thought you sounded a bit colder than me. When is your last frost date? You have a short growing season! I'm in 6a.

My blueberries are just getting buds. I pulled the fig tree out of hibernation, has a few leaves & a few figs - it looks good. Strawberries have some new growth!

Wandered around lost today really. Trying to keep busy. I spent 4 hours on a commission this morning after only sleeping 4 hours, laundry, wandering, seed shed, wandering, more laundry, wandered about picking up and not wanting to pick up too much too fast. Sigh.
Cancelled auto ships etc. Wanted to escape the house for a while, but didn't feel up to it.

I arranged the patio furniture, and worked on the hoop house vent system. I primed a door for the hen house. I sorted my seeds into my little plastic containers and into the little metal tin from TSC. Stood in the seed shed shaking my head at the lack of starts.

Has ANYONE else had a serious problem getting things to germinate this year?! I'm not doing anything different, not even the time of year. My tomato germination is only at 10 %. All seeds are from seed saver except for ones I harvested and ones from rareseeds. All of those have germinated. NONE of the seed saver ones have.

Anyone????

This has actually been the best germination I’ve had, since I added a seed mat for heat…tomatoes only took like a day to start coming up!

Wondering when you guys think I need to repot my greens…here’s a pic of how they are doing. Last year I just direct seeded kale, lettuce and chard, and ended up buying starts from a farm because the slugs ate my tiny seedlings. This year I want to get them big inside myself, so they have a better chance at not getting destroyed once I put them out!

Gently pull a larger one out before you water and look at the roots. You want a good root system without it looking like it's getting root bound. Then you're good to go.

Okay, I think we are at a stopping point for the evening. We still need to add the door frame and tie the panels together. There's about a 3 ft gap between 2 panels. We didn't want to overlap the cow panels because it would be a colossal PITA so I think I'm just going to cover that section with chicken wire instead. It's just something to give tomato vines something to latch onto. The whole hoop house will be covered with netting. I'm hoping 16 ft is wide enough otherwise I'm going to have to figure something else out...

I've not had more than one tomato and no beans/peas germinate yet. But I am the "chuck them in the ground and see what happens" type. All my seeds are purchased.

Michaels is having their "biggest sale of the season" event and photo boxes are only $12.99. Also saw smaller ones for sale at Tuesday Morning for $14.99.

My germination rates have been great. Out of my seed starts, I've had everything germinate except for 2-3 plants out of maybe 3 dozen?
