What did you do in the garden today?

Got my permanent crown put on this morning. They said no shots. Then when they tried to pull the temporary off it was stuck on there really good and he said they'd have to cut it off. So... Got a shot anyway dang it. Still can't feel half my face.

Kids both fell asleep in the car on the way home, and since it's cool and I park by the garden, I managed to putter a bit and get about half of what I wanted to plant planted. I tore out the bolting collards from last year and tossed them to the chicks, who looked at me like I had grown a second head. Replanted with a more heat tolerant variety, so we'll see if I actually get enough to make a meal or two this time before they bolt.

Also, replanted the bush beans. I don't know if they'll come up or not, but it's worth a try. Weeded, not that there was much to pull out, and then watered fairly heavy.

I have a second area I intend to plant okra and maybe some corn in, maybe some spaghetti squash too, but need to prep it a bit first. My dad is back from vacation, so he might be talked into watching the kids a bit at some point so I can do that, lol. I also need to try some organic fertilizer I picked up and see if it does anything.

The onions I planted that looked horrible... Two are coming up now. I planted two or three dozen though so we'll see if more show up in the next week or two.

I got a couple pics to see what yall think it is...gotta be from the straw right? Seed looks nothing like what was planted in that area which was just onions sets. And it is all up and down the areas strowed with straw.
This has been my experience with straw too. Even the bagged chopped straw has too many seeds in it.
So should I let it grow? Or do I need to pick it all out?!
I'm sure the chickens would love it, I wish I could trust the little buggers to just pick them out and leave the rest of the straw alone. :)
The cut flower season starts.
Those are gorgeous!

Chilly and rainy here today so not much going on in the garden. Saw to the critters, walked Penny then back inside.

It has been snowing off and on all day. It isn't sticking to the ground at all, so it's pretty to look at. Except it's April 18th forcryingoutloud!!!

I won't get anything done outside today. But I made a frittata and did laundry and dishes and got some stuff put away. Today is supposed to be the coldest day of the week, so maybe tomorrow will inspire me to get my hands dirty.

Tomorrow afternoon, we have an arborist coming to talk to us about Gypsy moths. Last year they were terrible, and we want to be ahead of them this year if they're going to be bad. We love our big 100 year old oak trees!
