What did you do in the garden today?

My 16 yr. old son just passed out on the floor.
We aren't sure if it was the heat (was covered with tons of blankets) or dehydration or if he's coming down with something.
I had other plans, but I guess I'm playing nurse today.
No plans to go to the doctor unless he takes a turn. Passing out happens with us unfortunately as I've said before, and the doctors haven't a clue why so there's no point in going unless he's actually ill.

just had another load of wood chips dumped this mornin, when they are in my area they are welcome to dump chips here, keep em coming..

We do the same, I think we had like 15 loads last year! We have very wet property, high water table & then wetlands in the back so we just keep pilling up the chips & it has helped a ton. We can walk places that we couldn't before. Plus I use them in the garden walkways & in the chicken run.

I had big plans yesterday, as it was supposed to be a beautiful sunny afternoon! I even took a half day off work, so I could extend my garden time.

Well, my senior cat took one look at my agenda and decided to puke all over it. Literally, bloody puke - along with crying and cringing and acting very unlike herself.

So off to the vet it was for us. No matter, it was fairly early and with any luck I would be home in time for a few hours of yard time.

The vet really didn't take long, but as we were loading up to head back home I noticed some dark grey clouds on the horizon. Wasn't too worried, as there was no rain forecast - I had checked multiple times because I didn't want to waste my PTO.

Full on thunderstorms shortly after we got home. Into the night and still happening this morning. All I got done outside was to open (and then close) my patio umbrella.

One of my RCW Piles.. Ramial Chipped Wood.. this pile is 2 years old, it can be used in containers, or build up into beds, or rows, the most success I’ve had with RCW is to pile it up 2 ft high in a long row and plant directly into the chips (which after 2 years are really no longer “chips” but the best composted growing media imaginable, all you have to do is water.. no fertilizer no weeding no pests. And it’s free !!!!!

Last weekend DH cut up a large dead apple tree that (thankfully!) came down after we got the new mower uncrated and safely into the garage. The trunk is easily 16" in diameter, and almost all dry rotted, so no wonder the wind finally brought it down. I'm going to use chunks of it as hugelkulter logs in one of the gardens.

There was another old apple tree that dropped a large dead limb, and he cut that up too. I've been going out with Freya and pulling back a cart load of wood every morning. Wow, does apple make GREAT fire wood. Dense, long burning, and hot.

Tomorrow is supposed to be spring-like. Sunday, a little less so, and then Mother Nature puts her B-hat back on next week.

Moved a couple brush piles this morning so the chipper trucks can have more room to dump and maneuver around the front of my property.. he said they would be in my area til end of next week.. I hope I can get 10-12 loads.. dang it is super HUMID !!!! 90% RH and 80° already.. miserable is an understatement..

The Lord of the Beans: Tale of Two Towers garden style.

We moved the two 10 ft tall, obscenely heavy and overbuilt bean supports to the bed we will grow pole beans. This bed is 16’ x 4’ Now we need to string them. Usually it’s an entertaining show where teen sits on top and catches the string we throw at her, then she wraps and tosses it back. We tie off every other toss.

It looks overbuilt but you wait, when you got 20 - 40 lbs of bio mass hanging on that thing and one of the summer thunderstorms runs thru with 35 to 50 mph gusts of wind, you'll be thanking every pound of that thing when you beans don't come smashing down to the ground along with an angry giant

Bit of rain overnight. First squash blossom opened up today!

I got manure/compost added and turned into two beds. Planted one rhubarb crown, one blueberry stick (literally a stick we will see how it grows) and one blackberry plant. It is a start. The local nursery called me today, my 30 strawberry roots are in!
