What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. It’s breezy and cool at the moment. I went out to dump my coffee grounds in the compost and heard my roo crow back to the others in the surrounding vicinity He’s a wee boy still and it’s so cute!

I got the apple tree a few days ago and it’s beginning to break dormancy already. It’s going in a grow bag today and into the shade garden. Hubs is going to run string from the beams across the stop of the shade garden down to the tomatoes. One is already over a foot high, the other not too far behind. I’m going to bet the beans and cukes won’t make it so I’m putting in a few Armenian cuke seeds today. So far all the jessamines and lilacs are doing well and the chaste trees have blooms despite only being little things. There are tons of blooms on the shrubs and bushes and we have lots of bees and hummingbirds around. That’s it for me, need to go get the watering done. Have a great weekend!

Chance of showers this afternoon but I am hoping to at least get my onion sets in the ground. Would like to prep for kole crops and peas but will see.
Been dealing with far to much storm cleanup lately. The cedar trees did not fair well. And the chicks outdoor brooder needs to be set up so they can get out of the house. I don't like having a light on them 24/7 its not natural.

I’m trying to get the motivation to get out there and do some planting. I have a honeycrisp apple that needs to get in the ground as well as a few pawpaws. My musa basjoos, mulberries, and chicago fig needs to be repotted as well.

Other than that it’s still mostly quiet up here. At least the forsythia is starting to bloom.

I just got all of my stuff out (except few herbs...) and even the tomatoes from yesterday's transplant look real happy!
We are neighboring states...I'm sure glad I went for it!

Got the sweet peas that I grew from seed all transplanted into this cute little area...looking forward to how this is gonna turn out!

Anyone do the high efficiency planting in your gardens? I think that's what it's called where you plant everything much closer together than what packing tells ya too?

High efficiency aka square foot gardening where each plant gets one square foot of space in the garden right? It can be good or bad. Good that the soil stays shaded and you pack a lot into a small space. It requires good soil with lots of nutrients. Be careful about watering it, use a soaker hose if possible. My experience was less than stellar, but our weather was particularly wet during the monsoon season with lots of humidity between storms. I had to pull every other plant to provide more airflow.

It is predicted to hit 80 here today . Too hot too quick . Back in the 50s Monday on . Don't get sunburned today . I need to do outdoor stuff early before the heat of the day . I should graft some pear rootstocks ( quince ) .

Good morning!
Does cleaning the run count? The rains been so bad that its soup out there. I plan in doing something with the beds but run needs it first. I dont know where to put it though. Its hay, wood chips, poop, etc. i have a couple of trees and am dumping it under them for now and plan on spreading it out to dry. Will it kill the trees?
The run is 128' sq and im taking out at least 4"-6" deep.
No idea what that translates into.

I hope the cleanup isn’t too horrible. I am planning to get out and move a bunch of branches that fell. We lost one tree and another young tree cracked 3 large branches, snapped directly down but still attached. My garden poles fell over as well, so I have to put them back up (they are wrapped in garden fencing to keep my dogs out of the planted garlic and onions until we put permanent fencing up).

Last weekend DH cut up a large dead apple tree that (thankfully!) came down after we got the new mower uncrated and safely into the garage. The trunk is easily 16" in diameter, and almost all dry rotted, so no wonder the wind finally brought it down. I'm going to use chunks of it as hugelkulter logs in one of the gardens.

There was another old apple tree that dropped a large dead limb, and he cut that up too. I've been going out with Freya and pulling back a cart load of wood every morning. Wow, does apple make GREAT fire wood. Dense, long burning, and hot.

Tomorrow is supposed to be spring-like. Sunday, a little less so, and then Mother Nature puts her B-hat back on next week.

It also makes great wood for smoking meat or adding to the bbq!

Mid 70s today, low 70s tomorrow, and then Mother Nature puts her B-hat back on for next week.

Lots to do outside this weekend, so I'll see how much gets done. We got a lot of rain yesterday, so some stuff might have to wait until the grass dries out.

It's a cedar board with burlap stretched on them.
You soak the board and the bagels bake for a few minutes on them in the fired oven and then are flipped off onto the hot baking stones. Mine are over 12 years old and it's time for new ones.
===60 mph winds last night all night long. They actually picked up and threw my UPS drop box that weighs near 30 pounds. Guess I'll be increasing the weight of it, again. When the winds hit the house at certain angles it accelerates even more.
Another day of these winds, tomorrow should be back down to the 30mph range.
My ears hurts from the noise, and I've breathed enough dust this month to grow cucumbers in my lungs.
Setting the birds free from flock down tomorrow. I'd do it today, but I'm not sure from what downwind county I'd have to collect them from. Although with the wind shifting tomorrow, I'm sure they'd eventually blow home.

My homemade biscuits, everyone loves them on Saturday Mornings with or without cackleberries, sausage and cheese.. sometimes I just do honey/molasses/syrup and butter... then it’s outside to fix water leak and get some sh-tuff done. Y’all have a goodun !!
