What did you do in the garden today?

You guys were talking about poppies earlier and Flanders Field. Very appropriate for Memorial Day. What I didn't realize is that I, too, had a single lone poppy bloom today. My own little Memorial to my dad who was a decorated war hero from Vietnam (1961 - 1969) but also spent a career afterwards helping vets with PTSD, first in mental institutions and later those in the prison system.

Roses are also looking so pretty... Couldn't leave them out!

Today was a picture perfect day on the river. Tons of people on the water... It was 90 degrees with big fluffy clouds in the sky and a good breeze blowing. The water levels were perfect too... Not to slow or fast. Just incredible.

And lastly, GOOD NEWS! The chick that was missing from under the goat house showed up while we were gone today! :celebrate

You lucky thing! You got to use a sod cutter! I was trying to find one to do my new potato patch with but no one within an hour had any. Was it fun?
It was pretty alright. Probably the best $75 I have spent in a while. Definitely worth the cost of the rental. I am no stranger to manual labor, but I didn’t want to cut all that out via hand and boot. Cutting and rolling everything took about 3 hours.

Doing it again we could probably cut that in half.

I envy you guys with your big extensive gardens! As for me, today I planted two scrawny, pathetic looking little tomato plants. An Early Girl and a Better Boy. But I have high hopes for them! I blocked off half the chicken run, so they dhould be well fertilized. Don't worry, they won't burn. Also added well-cooked compost. They should do fine. I almost sterilized this run several years ago by putting wood chips on ut. The chicken droppungs should have brought it back. Pics tomorrow.

I have a lot to do today, and it's going to be the hottest day yet! So here I am, spending the coolest part of the day on Beakbook! :D Actually, I'm waiting for the washer to finish so I can hang out the laundry. A lot of what I have to do is errands, so A/C in the car will keep me cool. Meanwhile, I'll have a second cup of coffee.

The temps crash tonight, and DH will love that. I'm just hoping we don't get too strong of winds. That's our biggest threat. We could use some rain, so I hope we get some of that.

That’s a good day in general!

Morning all. HOWLING winds all day yesterday, but we missed the storms altogether, which is fine.
Final count on the tomato sales this year was 40$ in the hole. Big box beat me again. (I'm not counting my time or labor at all.) This was the last year for them I think. We'll see.

Hoop house is going gangbusters, sweet potatoes are up and the wisteria are blooming. I hope to get the rest of tomatoes in the ground today or tomorrow.
