Its hot out there! But also breezy at times, so its bearable!
We have 8 fruit trees now. They are in a line down the driveway to the barn. two are 2 years old, Four are 1 year old and the last two were planted a few weeks ago. The older ones (6) all had major grass and weeds around them, so I've been digging the top layer up, adding a mixed garden soil on the top few inches to replace what was removed with all the grass and weed roots, then adding mulch. Two more to go tomorrow.
Tomatoes that are purple! Several toms are turning purple and a couple with yellowing leaves. This is a deficiency. So, I bought some young plant fertilizer (its meant for just transplanted or young plants), and watered them in. I also found some tomato spikes - quite small, but followed directions and the worst looking ones got the recommended 2 spikes per plant, but some only got one spike. Both of these fertilizers provide a slightly higher level of the phosphorus, and the purple leaves indicate a lack of phosphorus I believe. Hopefully they begin to look better. Most of the ones that look bad are the ones I bought from a farm store, so their starter medium must have been different than last year bc usually their items look great and do well!
