What did you do in the garden today?

It took 8-9 shots to take him out... The .177 pellets didn’t seem to do anything to him so the last shot was with a .22

Body shots with a .22 aren't going to be enough. Larger caliber is better, but a .22 is enough IF the placement is correct. You want to hit the brainstem if at all possible. Back of the neck, angled to point about at the animal's mouth. OR, into the mouth, pointing toward the back of the head. Into the ear can work too. A .22 can do a lot of damage to the brain, because it usually ricochets around inside the skull.

My potatoes are doing very well! The ones I planted last are the smallest, of course, but they look healthy and robust. I need to fill in around a bunch more of them now. I think I have 5 or 6 hills (out of 72) where nothing came up. I'm going to fill those in and plant some bush beans. Supposedly the two plants get along well.

6-10 inches of rain predicted for the weekend. Already coming down steadily. It'll be amusing if my new house gets more rain in a weekend then my old house did in a year.

African daisies are dying. Not sure why...

They look fine to me. They get leggy.

Well tomatoes and cucumbers are doing well. Peppers have Aphids and white flys!

I understand and feel the same way about cottontail rabbits. Yes, I know they get into the garden and cause damage to plants but at least they don’t want to kill or eat my flock…This raccoon was killing rabbits and squirrels, dragging them under a trailer to stash/eat them, and fishing in my garden pond tanks before it broke into chicken coop and killed one of my birds. He literally was a monster and he deserves no remorse. At all.

Everything needs a meal to survive.

Thank you, @Sally PB. I’ll keep that in mind. I’m just glad I got him after all the trouble and grief he has caused me. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else and that’s exactly why I didn’t relocate him.

This is my first time growing African daisies. Is it normal for them to die from the ground up?

Good afternoon gardeners. I started deep watering the fruit trees today, but it started getting hot so only one got done, the rest will be in the morning. They’re all getting shaded as well. Tomatoes are still going great there’s lots of fruit. I can’t wait for those!

I did some major pruning on the tomatoes today. STILL battling aphids and white flies on them. I'm using insecticidal soap and neem oil 3x a week and it's barely making a dent in the population.

Off topic - anyone had a blood draw from the top of a hand? They took mine 12 days ago from my bad hand. I told her it was my bad hand and she used it anyway. No bruise. But dang it STILL hurts, like she hit a nerve in there, but more sharp like a bee sting or a bit of metal splinter.
Anyone?
