Well at the pumps here it's $5ish, but the big boys have reserves/pumps on the farms and have it delivered bulk, but it is still running $800-$1000 a DAY for planting.

Unreal….I wish they’d stop with their political games and work on our domestic reserve. No wonder people don’t want to work, they are working to pay their gas bill…

Farmers and ranchers are busting their butts to feed the world. It's in their blood and everything has a precise time when it needs to be done. Trying to do more with less and produce as much as possible in quality and quantity without loss is always the goal. Timing is everything, miss a window and the pivots need turned on for water at critical times, more week suppressants need used, and fertilizer has to be maximized.

Just came in from picking tons of hornworm caterpillars off my garden huckleberries, peppers and tree collards. I love the moths they grow into, but dang... they're devouring my plants! My poor garden huckleberries were looking beautiful and fruiting already...now they're mostly bare branches with a few berries that they didn't eat.

I have this delightfully weird hubby who rescues bugs...and most of them time I'm right with him. But this year the funnel web spiders have exploded and their webbing is EVERYWHERE!

I normally go around with a stick and twirl the webs away, but this year that's just an overwhelming job. We're careful and sparing with bug sprays because of the wildlife... especially the frogs and toads we get in our garden. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of these guys that's safe for dogs, cats, chickens and amphibians?

I still have 2 pumpkins leftover from last year that I need to cut open and get seeds out of. Not sure where I’ll put them yet but I’m very impressed by their longevity as they didn’t rot while stored overwinter:

Got everything on the list done and a little more! It was a cooler breezy day, easy to work in, so I took advantage! Lilys in the front of the house, then zucchini, summer squash and a few cucumbers planted in the backyard. Pruned and tied the tomatoes, weeded the big weeds out of the rows, and watered the winter squash, zinnia and sunflower starts…they go in next.

I discovered a bit of nibbling on my pea plants……think a new bunny has moved in. My dog took care of the lurker we had in the fall, so this guy must be visiting super early before the dogs go outside. We are planning to enclose the fence with 2x4 welded wire to keep the dogs out when I want to let the chickens forage…but now I’m thinking I need something additional around the bottom small enough to keep the bunnies out. Ideas? Fence will be up in the next week or two. DH put the post holes in today, so not too much longer.

I overdid it a bit today . So relaxing now . My first planting of pole beans are trying to climb . Trying to get my flatbed trailer road ready .

I got a lot done today, as it was perfect weather for working hard: cool, slight breeze, partly cloudy. I hilled up several potato plants and hoed down the weeds in the potato and squash beds.

I also got a bunch of thatch raked up, and put it on a few walkways between some raised beds. It keeps the weeds down, and walking over it breaks it down. Then next spring, I'll flip it over onto one of the beds.

I still have some of the 50 lbs of bunny poop left. So I put more on the asparagus and on the onion and garlic beds. We'll see if that helps.
