So happy to know you’ve gone unscathed!Storms (the rare Double Derecho) went very slightly North and very slightly east of us. My adult kid was up bc works night shift and said we got lots of lightening, some wind, some rain, but not excessive. I drove north this morning, about 10 miles, and many branches down, but that was it in that area. So my garden is just fine!
** Public Notice to my Chickens **
Tomorrow is your 16 week hatch-day.
Start laying eggs!
(I'm looking at you, high production layers)
That is all.
In this batch, we purchased 6 Golden Buff (the high production ones), 6 BA, and 6 EE. I expect the BA and EE to begin to lay in 3-4 weeks (based on past experience). But the golden buffs should be early layers. They are a nice size, and they are colored up from pink/red to red. What breeds do you have, just sex-links, or other ladies as well?
Does he bite? I have a Dark Cornish/Breese cross in a holding bin. I put a no crow collar on him and need to be able to catch him to make any adjustments. At first I was hesitant and wore leather gloves, but his character turn out to be good natured, so he doesn't bite. If he bit me I would send him to the freezer. You guys my rooster cracks me up. He’s a jerk right now, you know how those teenagers get! I left the crew in the coop while I cleaned the water bucket and he was in there growling at me![]()
He has tried to fight with me and with hubs. This is a young roo though, not even six months yet and a big boy. He’s a beautiful bird, Speckled Sussex, so he’s getting a pass for now. If he keeps it up then he’s soup and pot pie.Does he bite? I have a Dark Cornish/Breese cross in a holding bin. I put a no crow collar on him and need to be able to catch him to make any adjustments. If you are talking Livestock Guardian Dogs I think the Maremma is the smallest breed. Still a big dog of course. They look like small Great Pyrenees.any suggestion what guardian dog I can keep around my animals? I need smaller dogs as their feed is something I must consider.
