What did you do in the garden today?

I put those small cheap wire tomato cages around mine and when I run out of those (I just did) I do stake them up. We get a lot of wind here so it isn't really a question.

Aren't hognose snakes the one that roll over and play dead? And if you turn them upright they roll over again to PROVE they're dead?

You just blew my mind, I never considered doing this! :th

Yup, we were reading the same thing. I'm hoping we have a mild long fall to make up the difference.

Okay, now I want pictures of both rocks please.

Oooo, have you always grown watercress? Are there any tricks? DP is planning on growing watercress in her bog filter pond. It grows wild here but I haven't seen any for years.

WOOHOOO!

I have got to try that this year, I planted a ton of summer squash this year so I should get the chance.
Only if you trust the farmer. I've caught our farmer's market vendors selling Costco/Sam's Produce and flowers as well as stuffed just plain shipped in from out of state to take advantage of the allure and high prices of farmer's markets.

Good morning everyone. I’m sitting on the patio watching the clouds. They’re thick enough to block the sun so it’s comfortable, but I don’t think we’ll get any rain today. Gave the fruit trees a squirt of neem oil last night and checked the soil; the surface has dried a bit but where there’s mulch it’s still damp to the touch so hopefully I’m on the right track. I didn’t have the heart to cut down the biggest of the tomato plants and there are a couple of tomatoes that are nearly ready. Got the soaker going on the aloes, swept the patio and moved a few blocks to make “tables” for my solar cookers. I’m done outside but have projects inside to get done.

There were some rather frightening stories on the news about water rights this morning. The feds will get involved over the water from the Colorado if the states can’t come to an agreement on allocation. :( Afterward I was perusing some tips for new things we can implement, but I moved the rain gutters and barrels to the top of my to do list. I found tree ring soaker hoses, which I had already asked hubs to make from the existing hoses I have. I also read that we can use the condensation from our HVAC for non food plants, something I wasn’t too sure about and was advised not to do in the past. I like the idea though, during monsoon season I capture up to five gallons in a day depending on the humidity and it always feels like such a waste to dump it, especially when we don’t actually get rain.

I cannot believe it! @chickengr the storm was dead shot headed for us....exact dame thing happened 30 moles away at my moms n daughters and THEY got rain...then it got to us and we got everything BUT rain! DH said on radar it literally split and went above and below us rain wise!
Idk how much longer the plants, chickens and me will last! It's gonna be even worse the next 7 days here!

Um...is mint and sage supposed to be in shade? Maybe that's what's wrong with my sage?!
We have a 30% chance of rain today but when you look at how MUCH we are supposed to get it says 0.01".... That's practically nothing so I went ahead and deep watered today.

9 hour errand day in the city yesterday, to include 2 hour eye exam appointment (new place is why it took so long). All that after 3 hours of sleep working storms all night. (Photos below.)Sinus allergy/eye exam headache this morning. Hoping it shakes off soon.

Noticed the blackberries and strawberries in the garden going gangbusters. There are baby tomatoes in the hoop house. Horseradish looks amazing. Sweet potatoes are starting to go insane, except one bucket, that isn't draining for some reason. I'll fix that today or tomorrow. For now the bucket is tipped sideways to allow water out.

Will be near or over 100 all week. July weather in June, awesome (not).
You couldn't cram another human or camper in the state park below below me, 3 day weekend plus father's day. If one more person goes in, a person is going to get squeezed out and shoot out the other side of the park.
Met nice couple at the market last night, which was full of people stocking up for the park. Chatted a bit and they cringed at the price of eggs. I asked how many they were getting, and they said just a dozen for the weekend as they would be in the cooler. I asked them how about three dozen they don't have to keep in the cooler? I take eggs to the campground hosts around the park on the busy weekends. So I took the couple 3 dozen eggs as a neighborly gift. They were thrilled as they both grew up on farms and said it's been ages since they had local eggs. You never know who might be a new customer. LOL.

Other than that, inside for the hot and HUMID weekend.

I have about 200 more lightning shots, but that's enough for today. Some were so close, I felt them in my fillings. One was weird, I heard a zapping, then flash then boom. It was like the lightning charged and ran the electric wires by the house first, then struck. Probably what was going on.

By the way, for those of you looking for a weather station, I have added the Tempest system to the line up of systems running on the ranch. It was BY FAR the easiest and fastest to set up, manage, and get running. Literally 10 minutes from unboxing to just looking at data on the phone.
I HIGHLY recommend it.
Customer service is quick (I was asking about an add on part.) and friendly.

First day on the job it recorded 50,000 lightning strikes, dealt with hail, high winds, tropical rainfall, and an owl. LOL

It's probably wanting to live somewhere quieter, like the top of a volcano in a war zone. I haven't warned him (Templeton) about winter yet. We'll let that be a surprise.

What is the holiday?

Lol, don't worry too much about it @Gammas Bearded Babies. We stuck it in a high shade spot because out daytime temps are 97+ with low humidity AND we're sitting about 5 degrees closer to the equator than you are. So we get more sun during the day.

What is your sage doing though?
Here's pics of 2 of em...idk what's wrong with em...any suggestions to help em grow?
They were down by the coop in full sun so I brought em up to deck to give em little shade.
I stuck my finger beside em so yall can see better how tiny they are.
