What did you do in the garden today?

@Sally PB - looks great! That's a lot of EWO!

I have mine in the ground too, I need to get some bug netting on them I guess.

YUM! I used to make brandied cherries every year, I miss them. We'd just sit & chow down on the jar. I bet I'd love the moonshine ones, I love moonshine.

I adore the seed pods! So beautiful. This was a pic from last year:

OMG I'm so excited for it!

I have my squash & cukes covered - it's kind of a pain to hand pollinate, but life without bugs just might be worth it. I have never hand pollinated cukes, I'm not sure it's reasonably possible. But my point was I have the cattle panel trellises covered with bug netting & it stinks. LOL

My sage is in full sun in a raised bed & is doing great. I'm not sure what's happening with yours. :(

I think about you every time I see the water issues on the news. It is such a complicated situation. I'm glad you're allowed to collect.

Now I have that song in my head...

I have a friend who tested twice with a home test, both negative but he knew he had it & went in for a doc test & it came back positive. Not to be a debbie downer, but just thought I'd mention it.

I believe you are correct. I'm a state employee & it is not a holiday we get off until next year. For whatever weird contract reason. 🙄

I'd be interested to hear your results - please keep us updated on this experiment. I'm also wondering if you'll get any bees.

This cracked me up! I found my dog in a very large pot I have next to the deck with 2 jalpeno plant in it this am - digging, trying to get to the chippy under the deck. 🤦‍♀️ Dirt & pepper leaves everywhere. I could do nothing but laugh at his chippy OCD.

Anyway, it was 47 when I got up this am. Beautiful out! My tomatoes disagree tho, I'm sure. I got 3 squash hand pollinated yesterday, the girls had been opened the day before but I opened the flower up & pollinated them anyway, not sure if that'll work or not or if viability is only the 1 day they are open. I did it again today. We shall see. I've got the bush squash starting up the trellises & trimmed a few bottom leaves, very excited about this concept.

The electrician was here yesterday so we're able to put a little more of the kitchen together. Last of the cabinets arrived at the shipper on Fri so we should be able to finish up the kitchen next weekend. Man, I cannot wait to have a kitchen again.
We’ve had some pretty smooth moonshine before. How exciting that you’re almost done with the kitchen! I want new cabinets like crazy.

Good morning all. It’s about 0630 and I’m done outside for today. Worked on the patio some more and watered a few things. I’m seriously considering potting the little lilac and moving it to
the shade garden until I can put it elsewhere in the fall. Maybe into the xeriscape garden where it’ll get a bit more shade than where it is now. Got a new battery for my kitchen scale and finished putting up some dry beans yesterday. The kids were amazed after checking the bags later to make sure the O2 absorbers work. I let them experiment with a few on their own and my sealer, it kept them busy for a while anyway. It’s been pretty humid here and the banana trees are happy! So is the sugarcane, it’s growing like a weed.

So good to hear from you again!

Those wild strawberries are just incredible, though usually they aren't very sweet unless they get enough direct sunshine. And your poor pupper, so clearly yearning for those scarlet beauties! What a good pup. :clap:love
These get PLENTY of sunshine. I should pick some that are in the woods for comparison.
We had a campfire last night, and she started growling while looking towards the house. It turns out, there was a fox in our bramble patch, and she must have been smelling/hearing it!

Idiotically hot and humid yesterday, and to add insult to injury, thick smoke. To the point we had to mask up to not totally loose our breath. I was assembling a new patio table inside but wouldn't be able to get it out on the deck with the benches on, so those would have to go on outside.
I would go out and put on two screws and come back in for 20 minutes. Rinse and repeat. LOL
It's finally done and it nice and it was AFFORDABLE, and it won't blow in our howling winds, AND I won't have to tie the chairs to the table to keep those from blowing all over the deck, AND the umbrella doesn't tip the table in the wind. See the tread here?

I am dreading going out to water this morning, I skipped yesterday due to heavy rain the day before, but I KNOW it needs watered now and fed. It's already 82 with a dewpoint of a tropical 74.

We put in a new wood burning fireplace last December
Fireplace or wood stove insert?

And most of those moving in are from CA and they want their pretty patch of lawn in the new development... that was built on dry scrubland that has not been lush in living memory.
Just like where they came from. A good chunk of California is nothing but paved over scrub/near desert land.

A few more decades and they'll be trucking in water to every neighborhood.
Where are they going to get it?

I tripped and fell, slamming my kneecap onto one of the posts lying on the ground.
OWWWWWW!!!!!! I hope it isn't too sore tomorrow.

Shrinkflation used to just be yogurt and ice cream over the past decade.
Nah, add in things like that 5 pound bag of sugar, now 4 pounds. And how do you use the recipe that calls for a 5 pound coffee can, those are 4 pounds now too.

I only use two of the products in the video but I'm sure there has been shrinkage in things I do buy. The one that didn't bother me at all was the 5% less maple syrup in the breakfast syrup bottle. We ONLY buy the real thing so it is ALL maple syrup ;) Sizes haven't changed but the price does.

I have thought about getting some electric fencing to give them some of the side yard, but that possible project is way down the list at the moment.
Easy to put up! Less easy to pay for ;)

these were nantes half-longs
Looks like a couple of them had the shrinkage problem mentioned by @WthrLady ;)

I sure wish I would start getting notifications about this thread again! The only way I can re-find it is to get on my computer, which I rarely do.
Can't you use the 3 bars on the upper left on the site on the phone to get to "Forums ->watched threads"?

Sounds like when I moved into the dorm as a freshman in 1974. So. Cal smog, don't need a fire somewhere to make the air bad. There were a number of days in grammar school where we couldn't go out for recess. It is actually better now, thank you Clean Air Act!.

So I skipped a lot. Forgive me, I just don't have the spoons available to keep up with all the posts in this thread.

My cucumbers still seem to have leaf miners, but that's not stopping it from growing tons on cucs. I don't k ow what I'm going to do with them all!

My peppers and tomatoes are blooming :yesss:

Darn bunnies got all the blueberries off my bushes. But there's always next year. I pulled up the lettuce and spinach because they are starting to look worse for the weather. Not much here, but enough for me for lunch.

The aluminum foil trick appears to be working for the sunflowers. No more casualties!

Technically it's an insert but I love it because we can pretty much heat the house with it....

Yesterday I finished up the trim along the bottom of the wood storage area (where you see the blue tape). Just have to put up the mantel and finish off the rock at the top.
