What did you do in the garden today?

I picked some blackberries. They weren't in the garden though. There is a smallish plant out front of the house and another in front of the barn. I guess the birds planted them. Better than store bought, those are larger and seem to have MUCH larger seeds.

And when you startle them they can jump straight up in the air 3 feet. Ask me how I know that.
Did you head inside for a change of underwear? I think I might if that happened to me. Fortunately we do not have armadillos here.

Here's what I mean about netting. See the green background, under the beige lines? The lines are the "netting." This melon probably isn't fully ripe.
No, no, at the store you are supposed to press your thumb into several cantaloupes and decide they aren't ripe and move on. Then a few others are supposed to do the same thing so that when someone buys it the melon can rot and mold in all those places after sitting a few days on the counter at home.

I've pretty much given up on buying cantaloupe at the store.

Were they like these?:

My mom and I pick these every year, at about this time of year. We’ve already made some coffee cake out of some. It’s been our yearly tradition for as long as I can remember. My mom and I call them wild black raspberries, but I don’t know if that’s actually what they’re called. To me they don’t taste like a blackberry, but they’re still delicious. I would take them over a normal blackberry any day.
