@Acre4Me when I checked my luffa plant today the blossom was gone and no fruit had set. 😞
But it looks like I have several other blossoms waiting to open. 🤞

Luffa plants throw out a lot of male flowers initially so that's probably what you saw. Only the female flowers will set fruit.

Today I tilled around everything (garden tiller = weed killer on steroids!). Looks sooo much better! Said encouraging words over my tomato and pepper plants. Bragged to hubby about the asparagus patch (3rd year finally! Got our first real small harvest this year. Can't wait for a bumper crop in the spring!) Thinned the green bean seedlings, and took a 5-gal bucket of the sprouts to the piggies for an evening snack. And finally, prepped another bed for a very LATE planting of potatoes tomorrow, which may or may not make it through summer heat - hoping for a late frost this year.

I also paid close attention to any signs of groundhogs. I trapped and killed one a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if she was alone, or if any pups might still be around. I have seen some tracks since, where I planted the bean seeds. So... hubby has kept his radio blaring 24/7 in the barn next to the garden, plugged in the air compressor so it kicks on and off intermittently, and I scattered all the used cat litter (4 cats!) around the perimeter. Haven't seen a track since nor any new damage to plants or seedlings (fingers crossed).

I had a luffa one year that had saucer size blossoms like crazy, never had a luffa on it. I never seen one have blooms like that before or grow like that one did.

Grandma raised Chinese okra, she wouldn't eat a gourd. :)

Were they like these?:View attachment 3180304
My mom and I pick these every year, at about this time of year. We’ve already made some coffee cake out of some. It’s been our yearly tradition for as long as I can remember. My mom and I call them wild black raspberries, but I don’t know if that’s actually what they’re called. To me they don’t taste like a blackberry, but they’re still delicious. I would take them over a normal blackberry any day.
Black raspberries . Native in my area but not at my cabin in Northern MN . They can grow there as I planted some .

YES! The yellow bowls of soapy water have caught/killed a SVB!! Likely coming over from neighbor-he just let’s pumpkins rot at corner of his garden, so he gets a huge number of pumpkin plants. Squash bug and SVB heaven!

I’ve got these yellow bowls around much of my garden. I’ll have to refresh and replace today.
