What did you do in the garden today?

I guess I'm into a pallet phase. Years ago I built some pallet compost bins that I still use today. But, back then, it was really hard to find pallets for free. Now, with our new Harbor Freight, they put out lots of free pallets for the taking. So, I am into building more things with all the wood I am reclaiming.

Your pallet garden beds are much bigger than what I am going to build. Anytime you have a long length raised bed, you get bowing out unless you add cross supports when you build the bed. I'll be tearing down the pallets and rebuilding 4X4 pallet garden beds. Small enough not to bow out, big enough to make it worthwhile. If it starts to fall apart in 4-5 years, I'll either just patch it up or rebuild it at that time. I'm OK with not paying $$$ for a cedar garden bed that might last 15 years, or more.

Dear Wife wants me to build pallet planters for the yard so she can have more flowers around the house. We are looking at a number of designs on YouTube. Although I would consider myself a fairly competent carpenter, I prefer the simple designs that are easy to build, looks like a strong design for years of use, and can be easily repaired if needed.

Long term, I'm thinking about a pallet shed build. I have built real sheds and garages before, but, I think it might be fun to attempt to build a free pallet shed just for the experience.

I have 2 piles of pallets sitting outside (uncovered) since the first covid lockdown. they are greyish now. any idea if I can still use them?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

Picked the zucchini & then pulled all the zucchini plants & burned them. (Dang squash bugs & their eggs) Then I pulled weeds. I know I'm probably way late but I planted pumpkin seeds today as well.

I looked at pallet shed ideas back then, but unfortunately neither my hubby nor I have any real building skill. I've gained some...but not enough for something like that. I'd sure love to see what stuff you build.

I am thinking about starting a separate thread called something like "Show Me Your Pallet Project Builds". I'm sure lots of gardeners on the BYC forum have made pallet projects for their gardens. I know I have. I have a few pictures to share, but more pallet projects coming in the future. Might be good to see other pallet projects that people have found to be useful. I'd be interested in any pallet projects and not only garden related.

Sure you can. Lots of outdoor pallet projects look better with an aged board. As long as the wood is solid, they are still great for projects. If you don't like the color of the pallet wood, you could plane or sand the surface, then stain or paint the wood. At the moment, I'm just more into the building of useful items and not caring too much about the looks, meaning I'm not spending any time on sanding, planning, staining or painting. Don't need those extra efforts on the outdoor projects I am building.

Good morning gardeners. Plans for early morning are still up in the air, but these kids are going to help clean up the yard for sure. We got more rain last night. Wind too apparently, two of
The girls never made it to the coop because the gate to the yard was blown closed. They’re ok, but poor things, I have no idea where they slept.

Morning. My onions weren't quite done to my liking so I put them in the fridge last night & I'll put them back in the crock when I get back from checking on Moms cat. They had 11 hours or so. But I like my onions darker than most, probably.

It was nice to not have to hand pollinate the cukes this am! Course I say this now while I still have no bugs. Next week I'll be swearing. :gig

Need to can the broth today & clean out the little coop but I plan on an easy day. Going to look for turnip seeds too.

Good glory. If you had carmelized them in a dutch oven or on the stove, you'd be done by now.
