What did you do in the garden today?

I finally harvested an eggplant! It's really tiny, but I'm still pretty stoked, because I've never had much luck growing eggplants. :ya

Does anyone have any recommendations on fall veggies to grow? I should probably start some seeds soon. Also, does anyone know the best size to harvest zucchini? I have some tiny fruits growing, and I don't want to pick them too early.

Congratulations on the eggplant! Zucchini is best picked around 6 to 8 inches long in my experience.

Cool season crops would be what you’re looking for for fall. Greens primarily.

Kale, collard greens, spinach, Swiss chard, radishes, lettuce, and peas grow pretty quickly and don’t mind the cool fall!

Anyone with goat experience?

We think we will add 2 Nigerian Dwarf babies (4 months old right now). Both are girls and sisters. We will likely put them in half of the open air shed - it has a solid roof, completely predator proof (as long as the door is closed) and we can add clear panels for wind protection. We will also put in an interior cuddle box (not sure what to call it) where the winter straw will go for warmth when they want to bed down deeply in a solid sided area. The alternate spot is taking over part of the chicken run, keeping them separate, but next to the chickens.
I have 2 Nigerian dwarf goats that I adopted. They came with the house we bought since the previous homeowner died in the middle of our closing. So I wouldn't say I'm an expert by any means...but we love our goats. Don't have a clue how old they are... We've got a buck (named Black Peter) and a doe (named Black Dahlia). I'm assuming they are pretty old because we've been here 2.5 yrs now and Dahlia has never had a baby. Could also be because we've (unintentionally) overfed them and they are both obese now (by goat standards). They are pretty comical to watch them together and get into all kinds of shenanigans.

BTW, my chickens and goats have separate housing but share the same large run. They do just fine together but keeping the goats out of the chicken food is always a challenge.

The hornworms had been sticking to two plants...today I went outside and noticed another spot with garden huckleberries was becoming nothing but bare stems. 🤬 Picked all the hornworms I could find and a mystery bug. Today's hornworm harvest.

Heres the mystery bug...it has a huge black triangular tail that it curls over it's back when scared. Could this be a baby hornworm or does anyone recognize it?
