How do I keep the bugs out of my broccoli and Brussels sprouts? Is it too late ? I spray them with a self mixing Seven but it doesn't seem to be helping. Should I dust them with something I remember an older gal I helped when I was a teen did that. Just over the bugs! Maybe I skip broccoli, cabbage and brussel sprouts next year

My hubby smokes cigars so I save his butts and soak them in water, add a little dish soap and spot spray as needed. If you know anyone that smokes.....?

Just be careful around tomato plants. Tobacco can carry a fungus that can jump to your tomatos.

I use cut resistant gloves! Never mandolin without them.

They won't save you from an axe, but they have stopped me from cutting myself on the mandolin at the very end of a cuke. PSA, I would NOT try what they show in the pic.

Here we get white cabbage looper butterflies and they destroy nearly all cole veg I try to grow so I don't even try anymore.

I find that mine like lots of water. Keep them wet, not soaking or soggy and they should be happy. You have until the first hard frost really for them, so they should have some time to flower for you.

Here we also have cabbage loopers. They are a white moth with a black dot on wings. Their babies are green caterpillars that are very hungry. They destroy the brassicas. Spray these caterpillars with Bt spray. This is a Bacillus bacteria that will cause the caterpillar to stop eating, and it does not affect other things, and is considered organic, I believe. The main problem with any spray on brassicas is that the brassica leaves are more water resistant than other veg-everything just rolls off! But keep spraying, squishing, and picking them off.

Otherwise, see if you dept of Ag for your state has any helpful guides - some states have a lot of helpful info.

Yep, I just don't grow broccoli or cauli. If I did I'd do it under cover.

Good early morning. It rained finally. Yay! We got about a half inch. More is anticipated this afternoon. My acorn squash is still growing and I have a bloom in my late planted cucumber plants. I too avoid planting brassicas because of the cabbage flies. I may try some next Spring under cover.
