What did you do in the garden today?

People give me odd looks but one thing I absolutely LOVE, is mashed squash. Mashing can be a bit of a pits so I rice mine, it's actually a good way to separate the skins off too for when you get one of the types that don't peel very easy.

Used to be able to buy frozen, mashed? or strained or whatever they called it, squash in the stores, Birds Eye made it, it was frozen blocks of orange squash, youd cook these with a little butter and it was heaven ! anyways..

When I get a bunch of squashes, sometimes they may have a small bad spot on them or something and need some grooming before you can eat it, Ill cook them first them rice them, add butter, some home made cane syrup and heck, you can make a meal out of just that alone.... or I can .. :p

Riced squash is also very easy to dehydrate for long storage too, and essentially add hot water to rehydrate and it's literally ready to eat in about a minute.

I carry a 9. First round is snake shot, everything after that is regular cartridge.
@WthrLady, I don't to clog up the thread with a gun discussion (unless more people want to talk about this), but what are your reasons for snake shot for the first round?

There is a VERY good reason NOT to do this. If more people want to hear this, I'll answer here, or else I can PM you.

Just go ahead and say it.

snake shot CAN take out a coon or possum at very close range, but is preferable against genuine snakes because that way there is a bit of a spread in what gets hit and you don't have to literally be right on top of the thing to shoot it or have perfect aim to hit it. That big mean ole snake ain't gonna jump out and bite you, or coil around you 500 times and suffocate you if you are standing 4 feet away.

the DIS advantage is, many times it is not powerful enough to fully cycle the pistol properly and you can end up with a jam, a stove pipe or something, and then you have to manually cycle the gun to clear the jam and get a new round in. Of course if you know you have to shoot a coon or possum, you can always jack that round out of the chamber, let it hit the ground, use the real bullet, then pick the snake shot up later after the problem has been eliminated.

Ok, I'll say what I was going to say. Yes, @WthrLady answered my question, very well!

In a self defense situation, if you put a lesser powered load in the first chamber "because I don't want to kill someone," (as I heard someone say to me) you open yourself up to all kinds of legal problems.

Prosecuting Attorney: So, Mr. Smith, you didn't want to kill him? Yet you felt the need to pull your gun, point it at someone, and pull the trigger? Claiming self defense means that you were afraid of him killing you, or causing you great bodily harm, and the only way you had available to stop him was to shoot him. But if you didn't think you needed to shoot him with a bullet to stop him, then you really didn't think you were in lethal danger, did you?

(gurgling sound as his "self defense" defense goes down the toilet.)

Back to gardening. :)

This is why I don’t use it. Sometimes in my .22 when we’re camping or hiking, but there’s always the human caliber immediately available.

Ugh you guys, we have 110* in our forecast. So much for the party. Tomorrow will be a get stuff done done before the sun comes up kind of day. Anyway, my Mom made these for me, she’s practicing her quilting skills before she makes a memory quilt

I have a spiralizer! Makes quick work of them & they're great as a pasta alternative. This is the one I have, got it like 8 years ago so would probably not buy the same one now, but it does work well.

Here's, I think, 10 or 12 spiralized squash draining:View attachment 3236916

We got some huge thunderstorms - I can't wait to go check the rain gage. I bet we got a couple inches! :yesss:

(ps, I'm still trying to talk DH into moving to the PNW :gig)
We gota huge thunderstorm too. .05 of an inch of rain. So disappointing.

flashlight gardening !!
I often mow the lawn at dusk IF it has not stormed by then for the day..
You need to get small pairs of eyeglasses that fit the head of a chicken, and tape pictures of crickets on them. They'll keep your lawn nice and short for you !!

That is one thing that I used to love about people from Arizona, it's 118 Degrees today, oh but it's DRY HEAT !!!! Like somehow magically, being dry makes it just all go away and it's springtime tolerable :D

Before you get too envious though, 90's when the humitudy is 95 percent, is just as unworkable as 110 is. Only difference I am presuming is, you don't have to wring your shirt out as often as we do !

Do what you can, don't sweat it if you don't get done what you wanted, but above all STAY SAFE !!
