What did you do in the garden today?

WE HAVE POWER!

They still need to come back tomorrow and finish up a few things. Still no power at the barn and shop yet so my automatic doors won't close for the duck coop and bachelor pen. I will need to leave the dogs outside overnight to dissuade predators as a deterrent.
Hallelujah!!!

Have yall ever heard of the "amish method of preserving tomato seeds"?
I'm really Wondering if it works!
Or if i would end up with a mess underneath my house!
Just skip ahead to 5:30 minutes for method.
I find it better to save the seeds and plant those.
The potted version, like above, draws, insects, vermin, and rot if conditions are not just right.

Plus you don't end up with a pot full of seedlings that you don't want to use all of.
I can store thousands of seeds for up to two years in tiny bags, or swap them, and plant them when the time is right. Stagger plant them even. When those sprout, it's time, whether you're ready or not.

mealworms are probably one of the easiest things to grow.
next time you get take out chineese, take the quart plastic jug, throw some oatmeal in there, throw some meal worms in there, a bit of lettuce, throw it in the fridge and there's your mealworm farm.

Ok, yah you probably are going to want to go a little better than that :) but just saying you don't have to get all fancy with them, they are stupid easy to grow and you can get by for really cheap prices, often times using 'free' stuff. When I raised bearded dragons and veiled chameleons I went, the raise your own meal worms route because crickets were pretty expensive and well.. they get stinky real quick too, the worms were a no brainer.

when I have young chicks they spill chick mesh and water. within a day or 2 I find a bunch of worms in there. are those meal worms? I always feed my big flock with them so had never seen what they look like as adults.

As adults they are large black beetles.

I do it in a similar way. I dry slices on a kitchen towel. it is too hot here to put it in a pot with soil. they would sprout.

I save both seeds and slices. slices are for the next year.
