About those ripening tomatoes....I pick them when they have a blush of color and put them in flat boxes ( all over my living room floor). They ripen up just fine, and that gives the plant more energy to finish up the small ones. I will put the greenhouse over my 2 rows this week to protect them from any precipitation and prevent moisture related problems.

Thanks! Thankfully, chickens don't eat dahlias, nor do deer and rabbits. Tried to grow sweet taters here in a greenhouse and outside, only got a few measly ones. Better in Texas, where I dug about 350# one season.

I made and canned 4 pints of salsa. I think I have enough of everything to make another batch tomorrow too. Have to have enough salsa to last DH through the year.

Give them a lot of chicken shit. Potatoes and sweet potatoes need a lot of nitrogen.

I keep my house too cool for tomatoes to properly ripen. So I don't bother anymore.
The green tomatoes I compost. I only leave the whites or the orange tomatoes on the plants.
If there are not too many whites, I'll send them to DHs office for people that cook with them.

I am trying my hand at making Pico De Gallo. I’m wondering if you really have to peel the tomatoes or is it okay to leave the skins on? It’s such a chore to skin all the smallish Romas I have.

Well I messed up badly on the wax beans, about 3/4 of what I picked are too old and dried up inside. Too old to eat and too fresh to use for seed.

cook those fresh beans/seeds with the good green ones. my granny did that all the time.
