What did you do in the garden today?

The bird at the zoo was a captive white pelican ( which are native birds here) that uses the same open water and lake that the wild migrating ducks and geese use. They locked down all bird exhibits to prevent spread to non infected birds. I think they found a couple other birds infected, but cannot remember what they are.
OH and the farm in Florida with Emmanuel the Emu (tiktoc fame) was wiped out last week. It killed everything but two female swans and emmanuel the emu. I guess she got away with not having every bird on her place culled too.

Got my first radishes

Raised the bean’s wires, and trimmed the tall beans, some grew over three metres.

Got my Music garlic!! 9 huge heads in the pound.

I’ll plant this weekend when a bit warmer. We get a hard frost tonight/tomorrow.

So, for fall planted, just 1” below surface? I’ll be planting in raised bed. Instructions said to NOT mulch on top bc can cause rot. But, in spring to cover with some compost.

Any advice?

Ive always put my music an inch or so down and it has done very well. Garlic loves water but the killer is STANDING water. Another thing people need to realize is garlic will grow DOWN ! You plant an onion, it sits there, gets big and bulbs, the bulb may even stick out of the ground a bit. Not garlic, that stem will grow 4 to 5 inches deep down in the soil THEN start doing it's thing. If you don't have good drainage and it's constantly wet down there you'll get neck rot. I have covered mine with mulch with no ill results, but again GOOD DRAINAGE, no standing constantly moist or moldy. Garlic can stand a bit of frost too so it shouldn't hurt it at all if it gets a bit nipply around it. Moist soil no problem, WET soil. will be a problem.

Well I at least hope they used the meat for something good instead of throwing it all away
If its the USA they throw it all away, it makes me absolutely sick, all that waste. Ill sign a waiver sayiing if I die it's NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY... give ME that meat and I have an ass ton of people I can FEED with it because guess what, when you COOK it you KILL THE GERMS !!!

I have been saying that for years and people see me as a black sheep or white crow. I don't talk any more. who believes in cinderella and snow white it is his/her problem, not mine.
Covid-19’s not that dangerous, they just wanted to spread the pandemic instead of having it all at once when hospitals are not prepared for such big amounts of sick people.

You don't want to even know what that hurricane did to the bee population down south. They had thousands of hives down there, it was a heavy flow, the season was ON, beekeepers from all over the country had hives down there to pollinate the plants, then comes the hurricane..... right now we are doing rescue missions trying to gather bees, and are feeding them sugar water trying to keep them alive and try to save some of the hives. it's a real bad time now.

I don’t think it can even hurt humans.

Good afternoon all. We got 1/2 inch of rain yesterday through early today. Nothing happening in the garden right now. I think I already mentioned I worked on pulling up old plants yesterday. To celebrate Taco Tuesday I’m making a taco salad with homegrown tomatoes and curly endive. I got two eggs from the ladies today but I kind of wish they would stop laying. I still have 2 hens that don’t appear to be molting but I have a stockpile of eggs in the basement refrigerator so I just wish they would concentrate on getting healthy before the worst of winter hits. I got my annual flu shot and my Covid booster this morning. My arm is a little achy but not too bad. I’m not all that certain we will get much frost here @Sueby. The temps will be dancing around 35F. The weather will be relatively warm with the highs in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s for the next 10 days. I’m hoping my carrots will develop a bit more as they are quite small still.
