I hope everyone is hanging in with the cold & snow. We are prepared for the power to go out, generator is ready.

i have 0 luck with lavender, I have given up. It will live a year or 2 then die one winter.

2nd surgery is tomorrow, see y’all after that! With my luck the hospital will lose power in the middle of it.

They say the tomatoes on the bottom of the plant grow the biggest, so if we want a tomato the size of our head, we may need to remove some on the top.

This morning, I talked DH into me going into town to get a few things. (Not that he wouldn't "let" me, just he didn't want to go.)

This was a charmed trip. We need a happy story, so here goes.

1. Stop to fill up car. Another customer says the local grocery where I'm going was a madhouse yesterday. Ok, I'll go there first, methinks.

2. Grocery store. Not too busy. I park in the side lot so it'll be easy in/out. I get the stuff I need, no problem. I get in a checkout line. The woman ahead of me says to go ahead of her, as I only have a few items. The man ahead of her says the same thing! I'm next in line! I chat with that guy, and he's going to Arizona in a couple weeks to prospect for gold, goes every year. And, I have a $5 dollar coupon! Yippeee!!

3. TSC. I don't know if they have delivery out to me. I've never seen it advertised, so maybe, maybe not. They do have another heated pet bowl, and it's $22, vs $70+ for a metal waterer and heated base. AND, I have a rewards member $10 credit! SCORE!

4. My last stop is the local farm market. They have apples and squash on a BOGO special. I get their last half bushel of Macintosh (for sauce) and a free half bushel of Empire (for drying).

5. I get home and lo and behold! the gas company has come to fill up our propane tank! If they couldn't do it today, they wouldn't be able to get back here until next week. Or month.

We are all set for the storm, just hunkering down and waiting for whatever happens. The gas can is full, the generator is at the ready. We're not going anywhere, just staying home with the dog. And the chickens.

So far lots of congrats but nobody has offered to help @chickengr move! I would but I couldn’t get my passport renewed in time. Greece in January sounds pretty good to me!

My chicken is drinking the vinegar charcoal water that I set out and I notice some egg laying activity. I think it helps them absorb calcium and increases egg production. I put 1/3 cup of apple vinegar and a TBS of ground charcoal in a gallon of water.

My younger hens were laying an occasional soft egg before I put out the vinegar water and after a few days I found 4 soft eggs on the ground which is unusual and indicates a change. All the eggs were hard this morning and I did not find any soft eggs. The vinegar might be working.

Keeping warm today, 0 overnight and only reached about 7 today and back towards the big goose egg tonight. the wind is blowing 25 mph plus. Tomorrow only a little better.

Im going to button everything down, and prepare for the worst.
how the HELL does 21 degrees qualify as a hard freeze warning on one day, but not the next? LISTEN TO ME. at that temperature shit will FREEZE !!!

going to move a lot of plants into my trailer for the cold. I move them in, close it up and put a little space heater inside to keep the frost off. has worked well so far for me. the bigger ones get rolled into the garrage. The tilapia, hmm i got the immersion heater going now, going to heat the water up see how hard it drops when the cold hits in earnest, not expecting a stupid crash on temp but we'll see. Worse case, i drain the pool, net them and throw in a40 gallon tank in the garage for a day or so. I think they'll be ok.
Hope the bees will be ok,that one is going to be a bitch. the chickens Ill throw some blankets over their coop to keep the wind out when it starts blowing but they should be ok too. it figures they ALL are molting now.....
