What did you do in the garden today?

A couple years ago I repurposed an old grill to use as a potting station. It has since completely fallen apart so I'm taking it to the dump and replacing with a nice new wood one. 😁 Between that, the planned irrigation system, and my attempts at vertical gardening for the curcubits, it's gonna be a great year! šŸ˜‚

what are the high production birds you have? I’m going back to the production reds - I can’t justify feeding & caring for birds that don’t lay. My spring order is all high production birds.
Here is the description. They look attractive too. This might be the hatchery's own cross - no idea.

Agree. I have found NO rat/rodent killer/poison/pellet/cake that is poultry/other animal friendly- at least here in the North American system. (the user you are referring to is in Greece)
Even if the birds eat the poisoned (alive or dead) rodent, it will kill them as well. It is indiscriminate.
This guy on You Tube claim his Corn Muffin mix and baking soda got rid of his rat problem and its safe for other live stock.................

I asked about how long for no BLTs (bending, lifting, twisting) & was told basically forever. The disks above & below my fusion are both herniated, my surgeon said he assumes he will eventually see me to fuse at least one of them. He didn’t want to do them yet, they arent horrible right now & aren’t the source of my pain, but will probably go eventually. So, he said to me, I know you can’t live life with no BLT but one of those will do me in eventually so do with that what you will. How long ago did DH have his done & is he happy with the results? I query everyone because right now I have good days & bad days & can’t say it fixed me yet. They say it could be a year before I know for sure.

I have never had big issues with birds eating tomatoes either. I have had a bite here or there from critters, but not big issues. I love to let them ripen on the vine, nothing tastes better! But my season is so short most end up ripening in the house in the fall.
Hubs had L3/4/5 fusion and has a cage thing in there and the doc has to cut off one of those bones that stick out on the vertebrae because it was a problem. No bending or twisting for life basically. He can bend to a degree, but not a lot so he tries not to. Sometimes stuff drops on the floor though lol. He had his surgery over ten years ago and some days are better than others. Overall though he’s much better than he was before. He was very nearly paralyzed, the stenosis in his lower back was so severe it was going to cut his spinal cord, that freaked the PA pretty bad when she saw his MRI. He said he’s happy he had the surgery because he does feel much better and for him it was almost instant.

Someone in here said their vet told then rat poison only kills animals with fur. Well, that's horse sh!t! My neighbor used rat poison to poison my birds and I promise it kills birds and it's terrible!
Do you KNOW this as fact? Save a body or two, call the game warden and law enforcement and file charges against them. You know the mushrooms that destroy livers right? why not make your neighbor some sphagetti and meatballs with mushroom marinara sauce as a 'lets bury the hatchet' lunch? Then you get the joy of watching them die over the course of a month with nothing that will stop it.

Actually, don't do anything to them, at least not right away, it'll come straight back at you. Revenge is best served cold. There are other ways too. HFl is another fun toy as well. What comes around goes around.,

Let me put this one to rest right now.

First: - The job of this stuff is to KILL THINGS - SO NEVER ASSUME IT IS SAFE E V E R.

However they do have some cheap crap, it's called RidX or something like that. I actually posted a picture of it about a year or so ago bitching about it. It was basically some yeast and flour with a little sugar. The theory was, rodents can't puke, so they eat it, it expands inside them, and well 'pops' their insides as it expands, killing them.

BTW the way the stuff don't work for crap, the damned rats came back asking for cupcakes as dessert :( anyways.

With this, since it's being used to KILL STUFF, they are NOT using high quality grains on it, and most likely the stuff that is bad for other reasons. Ergot can be in them which is toxic, etc etc. What about contaminants? Nobody cares because if it kills .. then GOOD !!

NO POISON EVER should be considered safe. Even this crap you get from Bayer, like bug barriers, claiming it's safe in the house, that it's genetically targeted etc. You DON'T KNOW. It has not been around long enough to be able to really tell.

Until the stuff has actually been in use for 30 to 40 years, and people are not dying of it, I will NOT believe ANY claims that it is safe.

I can't even begin to go over how many times, things that were 'safe' for us, a few decades down the road, have been proven to not be. Just look at all the medicinal class action suits.

You MAY be able to save a bird that has ingested this stuff, but you will be needing Atropine, 2PamChloride and some other CBR type antidotes. Things you don't just go into a drug store as a COTS item. It will take you a few weeks and that bird is in bad shape the whole time IF it survives, and only if you caught it in the first few hours of ingesting.

Poisons keep working even after they kill the first host. If you have a poison killed pet. Wrap it tightly in plastic and put in trash or bury it DEEPLY so it does NOT get dug up and continue the killing cycle. Buried preferrably away from any food plants you are planting.

Poison is Poison, It don't care.

Speaking of poison... I'm hoping I didn't just accidentally kill my ducks. Or chickens. 😳😳😳

Two days ago I put some Borax out on some ant mounds in the pasture. I closed off that section of the pasture at least until it rains later this week. This morning I let the ducks and chickens out to free range. I COMPLETELY forgot about the Borax out there until I saw the ducks sifting through the old horse apples near where I was treating the ant mounds. The horses can't get out there but my birds can easily slip under the gate. Now I'm worried about whether they ate it or not. Same with the chickens.... 😳😳😳

I planted some long hot red pepper and Won Bok seeds. I plan on chopping and salt brining the red peppers to preserve them. I will grow them hydroponically with concentrated boiled minced garlic juice and master blend fertilizer. My Won Bok always get infested with tiny black and green insects, then I give up on them. Hopefully the garlic juice will throw them off this time around. I think its working with my tomato plants. I don't see anything bothering them yet.

I have three breeds of high production, and while nice producers, I can't stand their attitudes/temperments. Longhorn, California Whites, and RedStars (red sex link).

I'm not selling much at the moment or this past year anyway. I consider them pets with bonus fruit at this point as I will never make enough money to keep up with their upkeep. People in town are complaining about the lack of eggs or the high price, and yet here I sit, licensed to produce eggs - permits and all- and I deliver! (I combine it with trips to town.) and Nope. $3.50 is too much. FCS it's ridiculous.

They make great gifts though.
That is insane! Eggs are well over $6 a dozen for the store brands here right now. You’d kill it here, lol.

I love to hear success stories (as much as spine surgery can be considered a success). Thats a darn big fusion too. Sounds like he might be lucky to have made it out mobile!

Thanks @Acre4Me - they sound interesting & like something I would buy. @WthrLady I started out with RSL & while they are always at the top of the pecking order they are probably the least flighty compared to my others. This will be my first adventure in hatchery productions - my others were all purchased as local bred pullets. Heres hoping they don’t suck! šŸ˜‚
