What did you do in the garden today?

My Burpee Giant tomato plant isn't as vigorous as the plants I grew from my Super Market Heirloom tomato. I wonder when they will take off...................My Katana and Better Boy are also slow growing., but they are starting to perk up. Maybe they will take off next week............

Although I have plastic egg cartons and other plastic containers to start my seeds, I decided to buy a 10 pack of small 12 slot dome seed starters from Amazon.

After several days with the vent shut, I can open it and set these out in the sun.

@WthrLady Does your greenhouse door slide or did you modify it to swing on hinges?
I prefer it slides. I installed mine and it is extremely stiff. I think I'll break it opening and closing it because it's so stiff. It seems like it's metal on metal on the top rail with the top off the door rubbing the rail. Curious to know if you ran into this... I cannot find a good video of the somebody installing the sliding door so far - plenty of hinge modifications though.

Aside from adjusting the door and minor adjustments to the vent windows the greenhouse is built!!!
The exhaust fan, paver floor, and benches still need to be done, but those are secondary to the structure, which I'm glad it's finally complete. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. Tomorrow will also be the first test of wind and snow... fingers crossed.

the cotton seeds I received.

They definitely have color!! In the seed description online, they keep the white fluff on the one variety so the long fibers can be seen.

@WthrLady , since you’ve grown cotton before, do I defluff the white seeds before planting? The other seeds are fuzzy, but I guess I just plant them as is.

Anyone else with experience, let me know!

Good morning all. Lots of snow on the ground. Over a foot. The power has been off and on three times the past 2 1/2 days. Another storm moving in this afternoon 3 to 6 inches of snow topped off with over an inch of rain. We got 8 inches of snow from the last storm. Good grief. I’m planning on running the vacuum cleaner later while I still have electricity but I ordered a non electric carpet sweeper to make sure I can still clean regardless. We had some melting yesterday so I’m not worried about pulling the roof rake out of the potting shed. I went to Job Lots yesterday to pick up a few things and they were setting up the racks of garden seeds and planting stuff. Hope to have time next week to go back and check everything out. Welcome back @Elyrian1. Sorry for your loss. Best of luck to those of you in the path of this latest storm.

We're going to be on the trailing edge of the snow moving through. We'll get less than the east side of the state and the rest of the people who will have to deal with it.

In a week, temps will be in the teens and twenties, a night or two might be in the single digits. A whole lot colder than it has been. I'm not complaining; just a little "pre-worrying" about my chickens. They won't be used to it.

On the plus side: the daffodils will stop poking through. Silly things.

It was stiff at first. I found that it was the rubber weather stripping getting caught on the track. I trimmed a small bit, top and bottom, to allow it to clear. It still has its days when the strip gets going the wrong way or stiff from the chill. So check that.
Otherwise, it's been fine. I remember it grinding a little at the start on the track too.
