What did you do in the garden today?

You mean pickled purple eggs? We just eat the beets and toss the eggs in the the brine.
======
Hens loved the sprouted lentils today.
Dental insurance DENIED my crown.
Dentist appealed and sent in all the prework photos and how it was cracked into near the root and was infected and a chunk was missing.
Denied AGAIN.
Good god. Like I woke up and said, I'm bored, what could I do today, I know a crown and a two month wait. FCS! $1500 down the bowl kinda....(crown fixed the problem and I avoided a root canal or an extraction)

The kids' dentist offers gas, laser cavity removal and white resin fillings... all not covered by dental insurance but I pay to give the kids a comfortable experience with the dentist and keep their teeth not just healthy but looking good. It amazes me how dental insurance can just deny coverage for the use of modern technology and treatments, let alone things they claim unnecesary (even though a professional dentist with a PhD says otherwise...

Nothing in the garden today. I'm resisting the urge to start seeds until at least after Valentine's Day if not after a business trip I take a week later. I'm getting the itch though. I do look forward to having large 8-10 week old pepper and tomato starts come transplanting time, much older though and they'll outgrow the pots.

I still need to get gravel for the greenhouse. The price of gravel is making me second guess the decision though...

@BReeder! See about getting bulk fines. You don't need much and it's FAR cheaper that way. It's about the size of kittle litter clay and it wets, drains and compacts beautifully!
I'll check around. I know I can get grade 8 crushed limestone (AKA CA-6) pretty cheap here and it drains well but doesn't look like anything special.

Does it need to? It smothers weeds, drains well and makes a great walking surface :)

(Adding I pay for upgrades at the dental office too, like the GOOD xray machine the 360 which provides a better view for my crazy sinus when I have work done near them)
I think this is a case that the insurance co is sick of paying for stuff. It was medically necessary for me to have a crown. It wasn't cosmetic, it was painful and keeping me from eating and drinking and triggering the root nerve. I have a history of my teeth going bad quickly. OH well.

I found an interesting semi determinate orange cherry tomato, some say its sweeter than Sun Gold. I like the idea that I can let them bush out in a 6 foot cage. They are called Honey Bee and their fruit clusters are amazing.

This seems like such common sense, yet I never stopped to think about figuring out what grows best in MY garden. I always rely on general information for my zone or state.
I have so many different types of tomato seeds, eventually I will narrow it down and grow the ones that can handle my climate. I ordered a tomato called heat master, unlike other tomato plants this one can set fruit in the heat. However, I am leaning more toward cherry tomatoes, since the fruit flies in my area don't seem to bother them.

If I don't put a fruit bag on my full size tomatoes, it will get eaten by a bird or it will be full of Fruit Fly worms.

I grew Heatmaster last year. My husband thought they had the best flavor. They were very tasty.
