What did you do in the garden today?

Our pepper starts have done terribly. Usually I start them in peat pods (expandable discs), but decided to use a tray of cells. Then, during warm weather they spent some time on the deck -fairly protected, but I guess too much light or wind (and not in direct sun) so some succumbed to that stress. I’ve started a few more seeds -in peat pods. It’s a bit late, but still should get some to grow and produce.

But we bought pepper starts and tomato starts at the farm store yesterday. So we will have something to plant.

Still cold out there, but today should be nicer than the past couple of days.

Not garden-related, but taking up time is our next home improvement/modernization project.

There were two walls here bc there had been a hall closet, and bedroom closet in this space. No, this is not a load bearing wall if wondering about that. So, we removed one wall, and will put a bank of lower cabinets in that space. The room I’m standing in is common area that is by the front door -and we use this more like a gathering/eating area. Yes, one kid of mine picked that green wall color in that room. We will soundproof the wall bc green room can be a bedroom since our house is only one floor, no basement. We will use the green soundproof goop (in a caulk like tube) on the studs, and between two layers of drywall on the common area side, along with additional caulk for every possible gap. Once wall is complete, then next phase will begin -remove the other green wall you can see (without the window) to combine this green room with the other room next to it. Since the house is a 4-BR, we won’t loose that status as there is an office (could be 5th bedroom) between bedrooms1-2 and 3-4, so the office will become a bedroom with the addition of a small closet.

I'm waiting for my tomato seeds to break ground and sprout. Planted them a couple days ago in seed starter cells. I use a "disposable" aluminum cake pan with the plastic snap on lid for my seed starting container, and keep an incandescent light on underneath to keep the heat around 80 or 90 degrees.

All my brassicas have been in the ground outdoors since February and haven't grown much, but 60 degrees today, and 84 degrees on Thursday should make the leaves start expanding in size. LOL

The 40 lettuce starts I put in the ground a couple weeks ago are starting to grow a little, and the coming warmth should help them out too.

I have five artichoke plants in pots I need to find a place for somewhere. They've been in an outdoor cold frame for the last month, so they got the dose of cold they need to inspire them to create buds this season.
I can only dream of having a garden big enough for 40 lettuce plants... 😂 Kudos to you! My "in ground" garden space is only 20 ft x 20 ft. I have about 3+ dozen raised beds (either large tires or corrugated metal beds) that I use as well. Our soil is mostly red clay so to get good drainage, raised beds are best. For my "in ground" garden, I've amended the hell out of it with compost, manure, Top soil, humus, and sand so it has incredible soil for gardening now.

Watered this morning and that's about all on my great list.
Cleaning up after making birdhouses in the shop all last week.
Sore from all the tree trimming yesterday. Such invasive species, all under the electric lines. Gee, I wonder how they all got there?!

What kind of birdhouses do you make? I would love to see. 😊 A friend just sent me a super cute gourd birdhouse.

8 hours of trimming these demon invasive trees, russian olive, honeysuckle, plum, I don't even know what one was, ironweed (which is a woody nightmare) and dogwood.
300 feet long ditch 20 feet wide.
Grumble.
Someone stole the gate to the cattle field I watch. Special place in hell for these people.
Thieves suck. Don't be afraid to use track ho for work like that. It can grab the vines near from the ground and rip a lot out.
