What did you do in the garden today?

This papaya tree grew by itself, I did not plant it. I think its from a Maradol papaya tree I grew last year. I got the seeds from eBay a few years ago. If this one taste sweet I will save some seeds to replace the old ones.

I think it was papaya that I wanted to try to grow here but I didn't because of the wind. I read that they grow and fruit so quickly that I might be able to treat it as an annual. However, my winds would take them out unless I built something to hold them up.

Just remember to boil 2x, toss each water, then after 3rd boil can eat it.

FIL tries new things, loves plants…moved to south, heard about pokeweed. Decided to cook and eat. Well, no one mentioned the boil 3x (toss water) and everyone who ate it had pretty bad tummy ache. So, toss that boil water first 2x.
I HATE pokeweed. It's all over my property. I spend all spring and summer yanking it out when I see it and it always comes back. It's invasive as h3ll. I absolutely hate this plant... As much as I hate greenbriar which is a lot.

Agreed. My property is bordered on one side by forest. So the birds drop the seeds everywhere else the plant doesn't.

Yesterday I transplanted a wild grape I found out front, to the outside corner of the new run to give the salty chooks some shade in the summer. Then I pulled up some of the mint patch to pot to grow outside the run, and a butterfly bush baby/sucker/thingy. Also tossed the mint clippings into the run, hoping they will root when the grass gets murdered.

Quick question I can't seem to find the answer to. How many feet away would it be safe to plant potatoes from the blueberry patch? All I get is "don't plant near each other." How close / far is "near?" Good grief! OK, I really need to wash the wee beasties right now. Thank you in advance for the answer to my question. LOL!

I'll take your pokeweed, and your greenbriar, and raise with russian olive trees. Invasive and 3 inch thorns that go right into tires and flesh.
No thanks. I fold... 😂

At our old house, we had Trifoliate Orange trees everywhere. They smell great but the thorns are wicked.... I've heard that the fruit was somewhat usable but I'll pass on that too. It isn't "pulp-y" like a normal orange. They are really small with a stupid thick rind and large seeds. Not worth the effort or tangling with the 2+ inch thorns. Smells very citrusy though and lovely white flowers that pollinators love.

Good question. I'm interested in hearing the answers.

I have 2 blueberries close by my potatoes... One is planted in the ground and is within 10 ft of the potatoes, also in the ground. The 2nd blueberry is planted in a mineral tub so it is isolated, soil-wise, but it's placed right next to my potatoes so literally within a foot or two.

I've never had problems with either the blueberries or the potatoes in that location.

My blueberries are in the ground, and I had my potatoes about 20 feet away. Nobody to seemed to have any issues, and there was a crop of corn and sunflowers between them.

You can probably go a bit closer than that. I've never found actual distances to keep things apart, except for avoiding cross pollination with wind pollinated things. So I try to keep them levelish, so nobody is downhill of the other, and just separate them with a different crop or a garden path.
