What did you do in the garden today?

Hi there. Thought I'd jump in here as good as anywhere - I'm going to, once again, attempt a container garden with empty mineral tubs. I've tried it once before and made some critical mistakes - wrong soil, no compost or anything to keep it from compacting, then came the fire ants, so I put my tubs on blocks, then they dried out too fast in the summer heat, and they were spaced way, way too far apart. We've moved since that failed attempt - the area I plan to use has compacted red and gray clay - no ants seem to want to brave it.

I'll have to dig through my scraps of chicken and hog wire, and cattle panels, to chicken and turkey proof the plants, and through the old tarps to use as ground cover/weed control so we won't have to try to mow or weed eat around them.

I miss fresh veggies and tomatoes... hoping it works this time. A regular garden isn't going to work for us until next year when my hoop coop expansion plan has come to fruition. Our soil is very very fine sand. Chickens and Turkeys LOVE LOVE LOVE it for dust bathing, but it's awful to try to grow anything in.

Hubs will be taking the skid steer and/or tractor to our lease where we feed the cows - we're going to shave off that top 3-4" of poopy, well tilled soil with old hay stomped in, and gather up some old hay that's going to be useless.
This time it'll work!

@Wee Farmer Sarah I'd love to see pics of the new area! Of course, we always love pics here. LOL
I’m taking pictures as I go and want to wait until I get the graden beds going. The blueberries I planted are looking poorly so I’m hoping the warm weather moving in will get them growing. You can’t really see them where theyre planted.

Rain didn't make it here. It tried. Now it's just dark, cool, and foggy. I'm having lunch and then going out to work on some air rooting on some of the orchard, heading for 90 for the weekend, 80s next week. Storms on and off.
@igorsMistress
we are just out of the age group that would have had tubes put in our ears as kids.
As it is, we didn't and the scarring and damage and the lack of drainage is hell come allergy season. Mine is FAR worse in allergy season, which is why I'm trying to get them more under control. With not being able to take meds for them, it's taken me all these decades to get SOMEONE to listen to me, and that's only after I made a fuss when DS complained ONCE to same doc about his med issue and got referred for shots. I've been asking for decades, and they just kept pushing the pills that messed with me in more ways than I can count.
I actually shamed my doctor.
"why when he asked ONCE, you sent him, and I've been asking for years." I mean, dammit!

I finally found my run away camera, it was hiding on the seat side of my Lazy boy reclining chair. What a good place to hide.....................hmm lets see what it was trying to hide.
:confused:

I guess it wanted to keep my bamboo cage a secret...
